Do you think they will finally build World of Warcraft 2, or still see it as a monthly multi million dollar income and leave it alone ?...... After all they have to see expansions are loosening their mojo.

After all, for 70 billion they would have to have plans for their current projects and some of that has to be WoW. Anything completely new, they wouldn't need Blizzard.

    Important:
You would think to buy such a venture, they would have to have aggressive plans.

However, I first hand watched Cinram mfg. buyoff Time/Warner music division and NOT CHANGE A THING. But simply to knock off competition and collect income.
Realize that Blizzard is the smallest of the three revenue / profit generation streams (less than 25%) Microsoft may be more interested in the other properties under the Activision or King labels.

So they could very well let Blizzard coast while they focus on the other 75%.

Yeah, I've heard people speculate that "Game Pass" is what Microsoft keeps its eyes on most. It is kind of interesting to see Sony fans worrying about "exclusives" when Sony has a few of their own. I do feel for them in games that were "all platforms" now may become exclusive. I think that Microsoft cares very little about console sales.

I will be interesting to watch how this all pans out :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Microsoft closed Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield to PS. Also smaller games before like Wasteland Remaster. It might do the same for Call of Duty or even Diablo 4 as well.

I think when they produce a console, they care about selling it.

The only thing I'm hopeful for is that Ion could potentially retire, or be moved back to raid design.

Under his direction WoW has become an exclusive mess of an MMORPG, and FF14 has basically welcomed the casual/solo players and has benefitted greatly from that decision.

I don't disagree with you - maybe it's different on console hardware.

When I last tried XBGP for the PC - it required you to go through the Microsoft Store for installs. It made a royal mess of my hard drive, flagged some directories to where I couldn't access them (even though it's my PC), moving a game install was near impossible, and many games flat out just wouldn't work for whatever reason.

It left a sour taste in my mouth.

I totally agree with XBGP, in theory. I think Microsoft totally dorked the implementation up though. I hear they are trying to fix it, or maybe they have, I haven't tried it recently. But after using Steam; anything with less flexibility is hard to swallow.

Microsoft did publish on the PS4/5 the timed exclusives Bethesda had already negotiated with Sony. Deathloop and Ghost Wire were published and not pulled from the PS Store.

Future titles aren't promised to the platform. Sony is slow to publish their titles outside their own platform while Microsoft has published many of their previous exclusives on Steam. They've also brought previously console exclusive titles to the PC through Game Pass and Steam.

A while back when the Xbox One was first launched Sony threw a bunch of marketing shade at Microsoft for their unwillingness to do cross play. Now that Spencer has turned Microsoft gaming around and opened cross play, it's Sony who has backed away.

Sony has all the power in the world to compete with Game Pass, but choose to stick to their antiquated PS Plus / PS Now model and tightly closed ecosystem. They should really consider opening up a little, reworking PS Plus/Now and modernizing a bit.
Sony never wanted PC, they do it when their studios insist and as you can see usually a few years after the PS release. Everything they do revolves around their console, it isn't really the same for Microsoft, their exclusives are not really exclusives, they are more like you can play it on any device on the planet but a Playstation! Sony has gotten very creative with PS5, Microsoft didn't do anything new, they just created a powerful device, it wasn't like that before, Kinect was pretty much revolutionary. Sony got 3D headphones which I can't emphasize how brilliant they are, the haptic feedback on the PS5 controllers is truly a game changer, it's not just feedback from shooting a weapon, you can actually feel what your character is walking on, and we have to wait for the upcoming exclusives to realise its full potential, and they got PSVR2 on the line, which is very decent, and when you compare the prices to other tech, Sony is a winner.

And there is Project Spartacus, my bet is it will be better than Game Pass in some aspects at least, and this new Microsoft deal should make them even sweeten the pot.

With GamePass now you can choose the drive and root folder you want to install games somewhat akin to a Steam library folder. You still cannot modify or access those folders and if you do then you risk borking all the installs in that folder.

There has been a change in that some games can be installed as "modifiable". This installs the game in a different root folder where you can freely access the files and install mods.

I'm on the Insider path using Win11 and the store is a little better? Not a lot though. Installs are still in the locked down folder which I'd hoped they would have moved away from by now and returned to the saner classic app install method.

They are changing some things, but very slowly and I would love if they moved a bit quicker.

In my opinion, Google killed the Windows Phone. They played hardball with their YouTube app and Microsoft rolled over for them. Most Google apps and services did not work well either which at the time was huge. Apple just stood aside and played the long game and let it happen. It was during the time Microsoft transitioned from Ballmer to Nadela and it was just unfortunate. I think we would be much better off with a Windows Phone to compete with Apple and the Android system rather than Microsoft adopting Android. :/
I ran into what I consider the most annoying part of installing games for PC games pass last week when I installed Dishonored.

You already have the gamepass interface active and are logged in there but then a box pops up that wants me to log in again to play the game and that kept failing with an error message code. I spent quite a while tracking down posts about that error code with all kinds of "fixes" about putting some services on automatic and all kinds of even more geeky fixes with regedit, etc.

On a hunch I just decided to logout of gamepass on the app and then back in again and that finally fixed it. But that double log-in thing even when it works, is a totally unnecessary pain in the butt.

The app, install directory access and all that stuff still needs some serious work.

Agreed the double login is annoying. It isn't actually a double login but an account verification process to allow those games access to your data. Apple does this, only much smoother, when I install apps on my iPhone. What we're doing when we install games through GamePass is install an app that wants access to some account data. In order to proceed we have to grant that app access depending on what it is asking for.

I use the Microsoft Authenticator app (along with Bitwarden) as my 2FA method. When I get that popup it asks the app and lets me approve or deny it there. If the game has already been approved and I'm just reinstalling it then it doesn't ask. It also doesn't seem to ask for some games that don't request a lot of sensitive data.

Microsoft is pushing hard for people to use the Authenticator. You can even go fully "passwordless" with it but that comes with other app behaviors that won't work for me so I don't do that. For now it works really well and makes signing into Microsoft services much smoother.
Is there anything special you need to do for it to work with just the xbox app but not hassle me for two factor when I just log-in to Windows?

Microsoft closed Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield to PS. Also smaller games before like Wasteland Remaster. It might do the same for Call of Duty or even Diablo 4 as well.

I think when they produce a console, they care about selling it.

If you ask me Project Spartacus is why they are doing this. Now Playstation can't go, "Play COD on PS with *Insert Name Here*."

Goeff Keighly shortly after this shared the estimated sales cost of every other major publisher and they were way less than Activision/Blizzard with Ubisoft being 8.7 billion I believe.

I would be shocked if Xbox was done. I have a friend who is a lawyer, and he thinks we are in a scary time because as much as people like to yell monopoly or anti-trust, Xbox really isn't close to that at all. We were speculating that they could easily go after EA, Ubisoft, etc... next and than when Spartucus launches Playstation has nothing

Ugh, I realized there are still 2 threads going so I'll paste this comment here too.

[Phil Spencer] Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony. I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.
Well, there you go. Spencer is playing it cool. Microsoft will honor all existing agreements and Call of Duty will stay on PlayStation.
Of course. But the keyword is "existing" here.

Well all rational peoples knows that you should not touch consoles anyways so I do not see much of a problem here.  :)

I am a scizo misanthrope. So one day I may go BANZAI on your post.
Have not yet though. Maybe there is hope?
Nah there is really none for me or the human race.

Skyrim is still being sold on PlayStation store despite claims in that very reddit thread that Bethesda games were removed from the store. Some titles will be available and some won't just like I can't play Spiderman or Uncharted on Xbox GamePass. Much of the Xbox PC catalog is also available on Steam and Sony or their close partners have started releasing some previously exclusive titles there as well.. PlayStation owners should be used to exclusives so I'm not sure why there is so much hand wringing over this.
I haven't really any rumours but Bethesda has been pretty clear that ES6 and Starfield won't ever come to PlayStation

Maybe MS doesn't like Amazon's New World, and decided to jump deeper into mmorpg's and offer competition.

    Important:
mmorpg's are a video game sub division starving for attention.  BUT ONLY THE RICH CAN PLAY !
