The Steam reviews show a lot of NA folks find themselves unable to compete in PvP due to ping issues, and SV obstinately refusing to reconsider their plan got only one server located in Europe.
This has all the makings of a game that will only ever limp along barely making end's meet. I have to agree with Slapshot that they should know better considering they're releasing essentially a new version of the game they already created.
The usual rough waters of launching mmo's. Hope the release get them.enough momentum to continue iterating as the game has a fresh aproach to the genre.

No worries I'm sure they properly tested their back out procedures just like they did with this patch, right?

I had yesterday off and really grinded my character up only to have this happen. Yea, I guess it has been a very long time that I had to deal with this in a RETAIL game. I can understand if it was still beta. I have over 100 hours played (since beta) and this is what made me say enough is enough. Bring on Lost Ark.
Their main issue was that they did not properly test the new server hardware and configuration that they put in the week before launch. That was on brand for them.
Now they put in a patch without proper testing and it messed stuff up worse. Also... on brand for them.
Almost all of their issues have always been self-inflicted.

Just like the original Mortal Online. You would have thought they learned a few more lessons than just upgrading the engine and designing some more systems, such as database integrity and rollback and migration processes in place. It's all pretty standard software development practices.

I think Lost Ark to some extent will. That game has a lot going on. People who say top-down view is not a real MMORPG just haven't been around long enough to witness the birth of this genre. I'm glad you are getting into it.

Lost Ark just looks too "Asian" for me. I'll stick to ESO and some Albion for now.

Getting burned out on ESO so LA should be an interesting break but outside of it's combat model looks to be pretty standard dungeon / raid centric gear grinder MMORPG, but perhaps it will surprise me.

Buncha liars and a scam game.
That's incorrect.
He's stated that the game can support 100k active players, never once did he say 100k ONLINE players. He clarified this yesterday because everyone thinks 100k players online on one server is even realistic.

Dont care. Their server couldn't even handle 5k concurrent players without subjecting them to hourss long queue time. Look at this weekend, the queue will be very nasty

I think once the problems with New World became obvious that he was more than willing to admit them. Compare with some fanbois here who actively back blaming the community when things go sideways.
Let's say that I'm just more tolerant than some game bashers, and that I'm giving new games a fair chance, specially when I'm honestly having fun in them. And I definitely got 500+ hours of fun out of New World already, not bad for a $40 game without subscription.
It's when mega-companies took over whole servers (and I transferred once only to find the same problem) that I began to get annoyed, considering that if you wanted to do anything in game, be it housing or crafting, you had to go to one of those towns and give those asshats some of your gold by using crafting stations or the auction house, or even just paying your housing rent. I'm still watching the game, but the only way to fix that is to completely revamp the town ownership system so that the earned gold can only be used for town maintenance and not for personal profit and real money trading.
The other change that annoyed me was the addition of a new layer of gear grind beyond the previous gypsum based one. That kind of changes should be for an expansion. I am interpreting that as an artificial way to keep people busy instead of adding real content.
I'm still loving every else in the game, the world, the art, the interface, the crafting, the combat, and recent changes made dungeon access orbs able to be purchased with faction tokens, which is a good fix while still limiting mindless farming.
I don't exclude going back if they add some PvE quest content or new areas, since my character is well geared and I don't really need to use the towns anymore, but NW won't be my main MMORPG unless they do what I said above about the ownership system. Remove the ability for mega-guilds to reap the result of my efforts, and I'll be back immediately.

That anecdote doesn't change the reality that multiple people have reported this issue from places outside of EU.
It's sitting at around 50% positive, which is a god awful number in Steam's review system. From my read through yesterday, most negative reviews reference either the ping or, if they're not even lucky enough to make it out of Haven, the server setup issues that result not from technical problems, but SV's intended design.

My spidersense was tingling not to put in too much gametime till a confirmed working patch.
This is a niche game, so it thrives or dies on word of mouth and steam reviews.
