Matchmaking and Find Party is absolutly broken, the lag is unberable betwen servers.
The chat inside co-op dungeons have almost 1 minute delay.
I have 1Gbps Internet package and 10ms Ping, a very good setup and I even play with min graphics for better FPS and no particle/skill effects to have the best vision during combat i can possible have so no, it's not my problem, the servers are just awfull...
I never have queue problems because I log in past 2am or before 1pm so good for me.
Like some people said above, the RPG part of the game in EU servers are gonne, you'll find 1 out of 100 players knows english, the others just don't care or don't even try. There is no social aspect in the game right now on this server.
If you're new and you didn't started playing yet, run away to NA servers!

I did mention in my post that games can ban anyone for whatever reason. I was never banned personally. Which game are you talking about?

I was sharing my life story because someone asked about exactly that and the legality of using a VPN.

The legality comes down to this, they can know that you are using a VPN. But they can't know your location. So they can't ban you based on their region locked rules. They have to have a specific policy for using a VPN, which for the life of me, I have never seen one worded like this. If you know any, do share.

That, from the legal standpoint, is privacy infringement, and considering if you are EU or not, you can fight it.

A company cannot bar you for using any legal services so they can access your private information. Unless there is a governmental policy backing it. For instance, banks can do so due to sanctions or money laundering practices.

I'd be surprised if there's a privacy law protecting companies from knowing where people live on a region or national basis, especially if that person is trying to access their service.

In this case Steam / Amazon have a contractual reason to discern where a person lives as they can't service sanctioned individuals or corporations.

Since they cannot pierce a VPN, they have every right to deny someone service who cannot or will not verify their identity at the time of account set up.

That's how my guildmate got through, while they blocked him from setting up an account through an AU VPN, after his US friend set one up my friend had no problem using his VPN to play the game.

Only downside (depending how you look at it) is he can't directly pay for anything, would have to route funds to his friend which would be possible, just a hassle.

One final point, while banks have to sanction screen, they get the payor and receiver info from the originators who are supposed to do their due diligence to know who is buying from them.

First of all, it depends on what kind of service they are denying you.

For instance, if you are in a certain region, you could watch an online sport match for free, other regions had to pay. So these providers are simply blocking VPNs. There is nothing wrong with that.

Another matter is where does money come from. In my case, I had my UK bank account--or my UK company bank account connected--to the mentioned site's account and I had been verified. And I was paying the company for services. No part of our agreement was them barring me from using a VPN, or given them the right to know my location at all times. So they had no right to suspend my account.

When it comes down to gaming, my own personal experience is anecdotal here. But I have never heard a gaming company banning people for using a VPN. If they have, I'd like a source and see who does such a thing to steer fucking clear from them.
