image5 Games That Deserve an Emulated Version | MMORPG.com

A popular R&B group once solemnly sang about how hard it is to say goodbye to the past, which is a sentiment we gamers are very familiar with. As we continue to look back on the golden age of MMORPGs, there are fans out there that are just not willing to let the online games of the past die. We've seen well-made emulated versions of Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes and Warhammer: Age of Reckoning not only grace the virtual landscape again, but even thrive with new content. Here's a list of 5 g

I think if there was a Marvel Heroes emulator it would go the route City of Heroes emulator did before it was leaked to the mmo sites. It would be extremely underground because if Disney got word they would agressivly seek legal action and take their children.

I would love to play Tabula Rasa again and Asheron's Call 1/2.

There definitely is an emulator for Vanguard. However, the team seems small and they work on it bit by bit. The first time I tried it, it was unplayable. It's much better now and "playable."

I only played Vanguard from this list. I came somewhat late, and had a high-end machine with an SSD. Vanguard ran fine, with almost no stuttering while chunking.

I definitely enjoyed the mini-games of fishing and crafting. I spent months farming to get my first mount, right before the cash shop came online.

If they could bring it all back, and then finally finish it, I'd play in a heartbeat.

I am not sure how well comedy works in MMOs and so I tend to think that's why Wildstar did not do so well.

I would like to see Vanguard emulated if they take the crafting and diplomacy system forward. Don't fancy doing all the quests again to level up your alt, how about leveling using the diplomacy or crafting quests? When I think of great gameplay systems that came out and were then overlooked this makes the top three every time.

Tabula Rasa changed horses mid race, it was going to be fantasy then they went SF, you can't make huge changes like without hugely impacting the quality on launch, look what happened to New World.

The Matrix is a MMO I missed and wish I had played, but my guess is unless we get a new film it will not be reborn.

Tabula Rasa is one game I'd like to see return in an Emulator as I missed it the first go around waiting for it to be fleshed out more. (Vehicle travel and combat was allegedly in the works when the cord was pulled)

Never played The Matrix Online but what I read about it didn't really interest me much at the time.

I did try the others mentioned, but they just weren't my thing.

Hmmm, I wonder if it was just game play. The comedy was fine for what it was. I remember playing the starter area, the very first bit, and actually getting mad as it was just so dull. It was made to be exciting but the game play was boring. I wonder if that just propagated through the entire game..

I really liked Vanguard.  I liked the crafting immensely and I thought it was fun and novel with the card game diplomacy.  I also like the variety of classes.  Would play this in a heart beat.  The rest...meh

I'm so over Marvel universe so wouldnt even date a Marvel game at this point. Wild Star I friend zoned because it was cute yet somehow like it was "taking the p*ss" out of MMORPG's so would keep around for a laugh. After that joke of a recent movie I can't believe I'm saying my Keanu daydreams are over & I did not play Tabula Rasa however Vanguard...hmmm - the one that got away.

Not good ones.  Most of the features don't work on them including vanguard which is probably the furthest along.

  • foppoteefoppotee Member RarePosts: 537
All 5 are good candidates for an official/unofficial emulated version.

I never got to try Tabula Rasa, so I would love that. Otherwise I would kill to be able to play Marvel Heroes and Wildstar again. Miss them both so much.

I do miss Tabula Rasa but I don't remember it very well. I remember having quite a bit of fun on it but that was also a very long time ago.

Vanguard would be the most likely choice for me for like a 1-1 emulation, I wish that existed as I didn't get into the game until really close to when it shut down.

Wildstar does not need an emulator, the devs had no idea how to keep population in that game at all, and I feel like it died every single time they tried to release it. Even after a huge surge of population from the steam launch it still fell off like a month later. It sucks because I really liked Wildstar but it just could not hold a playerbase at all.

I tried Matrix Online at an old EQ Fan Faire.  They even gave all attendees a free copy of the game.  It lies unopened in my desk drawer.  Let the dead lay in piece.

I liked Vanguard a lot too and I was a very early adopter at a time when it had many broken quests and all kinds of other oddities.

I honestly can't even remember why I stopped playing it but something else must have gotten my attention.

I'd definitely give it another shot.

I left Vanguard due partially to the game breaking bugs, but mostly because my old guild all went back to play Wow's Burning Crusade expansion.

I googled game dates because I was curious and figured out where I went. It was LOTRO which released a couple of months after Vanguard. I played that for a few years.

Wildstar emulator is being worked on and in a pretty good state..

I will tell you what happened to Tabula Rasa :

The "Lord", fucked up all the development of the game. The release was PATHETIC ( I was there ), with many bugs and not working features. It was a mess. After almost 1 year from release, he goes to space to "market" the game?! What game? He didn't even tried to fix it or was unable. That's how bad of a developer he is ( see his last "game" where he literally sold his blood and hair for money to ..support the game ).

NcSoft is guilty for believing in him and not kicking his ass sooner. He's a scammer. Period.

Other then that, the only "emulated" version I want from all this list is Wildstar. Vanguard was a big empty world with little to do. Yes yes, it had "potential" . If I write a game probably many will say that it has potential. Matrix Resurrections also had potential.......

Matrix Online was this "pretty good" MMO but badly "injured" from the very ones who created it. Tried too hard to be something different ..but failed.

I didn't play Marvel Heroes, so .. yea! Here goes my rant!
