Asheron's call 1 was ahead of its time when it launched. It was far better than Everquest.

It had a completely seamless zoneless world. It had the largest game world map. It had better graphics. it had an innovative spell system,  fast paced combat system..

The only reason it wasn't more popular is because they didn't make it in the classic fantasy world of elves and dwarves and shit..  so all the Nerds went to Everquest and jacked off to that chic on the box cover.
I disagree I think both games were good. There is no need for this 'my game is better than your game' nonsense. I felt that Everquest was better than AC so there!  OOPs   :p

AC  had that awful system where you played to keep someone higher than you in your fiefdom in luxury. Sounds absolutely feudal. The world was lovely but the characters looked awful compared to Everquest.

Yes, there were no nerds in Asheron's call at all. ;)

That pyramid scheme was goofy as hell. I was in a guild and got in early enough that I was near the top of the pyramid reaping rewards. I felt embarrassed by my unearned riches to the point that I unilaterally stepped down a rung and promoted my main vassal who was much more involved in the game than I was to my spot and I became his vassal :)

As a fan of AC what can I say? The classic fantasy world for a MMORPG is the big puller, beats Sci Fi, modern, historical any time. But AC had a lot of fantasy apart from the races so I am not sure how far you can push that idea, never played EQ but I did like the chic. :)
