Holy trinity with grouping, LFG

MMOman101MMOman101 Member UncommonPosts: 1,787
I kind of want to play an MMO with grouping and interdendencies. WoW is not an option here. I know I have played almost everything out there at some point.  Just looking for a fun game to heal a group in.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

I think City of Heroes is about the easiest game to run groups with, and healers are very welcome.

Not sure how I feel about private servers.

I'm never for them unless the Game Company shuts the game down.

Then I'm "ok" with them unless of course the game company decides they want to send a "cease and desist" in which case I agree that is "their" right.

I am more worried about security.  I mean large company xxxx will sell my data but they are unlikely to use my pc as a bot.

yeah, I guess that could be a thing. I suppose you could research one of the  larger ones and see what people say.

ESO has a trinity system although on the honor system so you do see a fair amount of fakers who queue as tanks or healers to get an instant PUG, at least in normal mode dungeons - not so in vet difficulty though where fakers get kicked by the group immediately.

But if you're a healer, you're at least guaranteed to have one of those :) You might get a DPS with no taunt as a tank though.

You can try FFXIV for free up to the end of their expansion, Heavensward. They also have a trust system, which is essentially npcs that act like players in a dungeon if you ever want to run stuff solo.

CoH is the only suggestion so far. Anyone else have some idears?

I have played on Homecoming they have a small crew of people who are avid fans that have created new content and done a lot to improve and maintain the game. There has never been a complaint of them using our PC as a bot.

They are just fans who ran the game before the whole thing about them running them in secret came out and they were in discussions with NCSoft.

Plus the community on the Homecoming COH servers are really very good.

Well, you also have final fantasy iv and Elder Scrolls online as suggestions.

I'll assume you most likely played Lord of the Rings Online?

I played ff14 when it came out before they redid it. I did not like ES and I only tried lotro one time and made it to lv 5. Just did not click at the time.  Of ff14 and lotro what has the more interesting healing class? Also what game is better for finding groups now. I am sure I would have to restart in both

FFIV has 4 healer classes.  The White mage, Scholar and Astrologian share fair number of spells, but they do have enough differences to make each abit unique. Sage is the latest one and it's abit different from the other 3. It is on par with the others but may take a bit to get use to.

Definitely more people playing FF14 but it depends on what type of Healer you like to play.

In FF14 all Healers spend 90% of the time casting damage spells.

Technically there are 4, but you can only realistically start as 1 for quite some time. Scholar and Astrologian are content gated and Sage is level gated, so you're stuck playing conjurer/white mage for your first 30 levels if you're wanting to heal. The good thing about FFXIV (incase you forgot since the last time you played it) is that you can change classes (called jobs in this game) usually whenever you want outside most instances incase you dont light a particular playstyle.

It really seems like group based mmos, mmos in general I guess, are dead. The games we are talking about are really old. Kind of disappointing.

    Kind of maybe?

Final Fantasy 14 isn't "that" old as compared with some others.

Elder Scrolls Online isn't that old either.

I can't speak for, say, New World, as far as trinity.

Are there new mmorpg's that are coming down the pike that have grouping?

    Maybe.

"If" Pantheon launches it will have grouping but that won't be soon. I think Ashes of Creation will have grouping but that's if and when it launches.

If you want to play an mmorpg that has grouping I think you'll have to bite the bullet, find an exisitng game you like and join an active guild.

Disappointing. What game does have active healer game play outside of classic wow. Vanguard was really fun but that is dead.
