This game really never had a chance they should have just come out with a standalone RPG or something and it probably would have had a better response.

^this... they could just rework it and sell it as a single-player.

First I've heard of this game, looks like it could've been good, but wasn't.

Same, I never knew the game existed. I also checked the review it's just seems to be a generic game nothing ground breaking.

Another game whose name ended up being a self-fulfilling prophesy much like Population Zero. While I'm not superstitious, if I were a game developer I think I would avoid titles with words involving failing, falling, cataclysm, apocalypse, reaching zero, or the end. I think it sets a subconscious trajectory for your game in the minds of gamers that it's doomed from the start.

I predicted this would be the biggest flop of the year. I had no idea it would be THIS much of one.

Sounds to me that it wasn't the entire Art style just a special effect that was applied when the player moved around.

March 2022 thru Feb 2023?  That's a poor reflection on the game.  At least, a game should be viable longer than most game's crowdfunding efforts to be even considered as any degree of 'successful'.  While I don't know for certain, this one smells like bad business planning from the start.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Review started off with "PS5 Exclusive" and a Not so MMO tag and I'm sure my eyes glazed over and my mind went..

Came out at the same time as Elden Ring, right?  That sucked all the air out of the room for them, on top of whatever other faults the game might've had.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Um yep.  Their skillset was not in that type of game at all but they were forced to make a GAAS.  SQEnix takes ultimate responsibility as their boss and overseer.

Or, you know, they could have continued the development and fixed the few minor problems but the result would have been the same - some people decided to farm quite a few outrage clicks out of a decent game with a few problems and no matter what the devs do the situation will only get worse. It is not the first time a game was killed by sensationalism and it won't be the last.

No, it was the entire art style. They went for a living watercolor painting effect, complete with a rough canvas and moving brush strokes. It was actually at its worst when you were standing still, and it wasn't as noticeable when you were in combat. The art style downgraded graphics to a fuzzy PS2 era look. Retro is a good look when that's what you are actually going for.

The biggest issue with the game was how little character progression there was in the first 10-15 hours. In the big picture, 15 hours isn't a large investment when you consider players can dump hundreds or thousands of hours into this type of game, but these days you have to catch the attention of streamers and their audience quickly or they will spread a negative view and the media will latch on to that and run with it.
