I've never cheated in a video game and never been banned....Usually I find where there is smoke there is fire......99% of the players I know "have" to win and look for every edge possible, especially in PVP games.

I never ever cheated either. And also never got banned for it, since I never did it.

Last time I got banned was this summer in New World. I called some asshat who was saying utterly bad things about black people in global chat a "racist asshole". Of course, him and probably his friends turned that against me, and I got a one day ban. Did it feel a bit unfair ? Yeah. But they were right, one must not do justice himself or chat becomes a mess. I should simply have reported the asshat and be done with it.

A gem of a thread (now locked) from the New World forums.

Gold seller wants to know how long he will be banned because he didn't use the latest exploits, just sold gold lol.

That sounds like a troll no way an actual goldseller would bother. They would simply use a stolen cc and get another account.

This game needs work if they are having these issues I am holding off for now.

Could be a troll. Hard to tell them apart from the actually clueless... who do exist :)

I am sure that some innocent were caught in the ban wave.  That said AGS has an atrocious system in place if it anything like last ban wave.  Customer support was through the amazon website and you got CS people answering and giving out canned replies that were pretty nonsense.

I remember we had a thread about it here on mmorpg and lots of peeps took the shit out of me when I was saying algorithm  was crap and their support system was even worse.  I do remember some people sending in appeals and being told the ban was justified yet 2 days later their bans were lifted.

The whole process was kind if inept and I kind if pity anyone that is truly innocent trying to appeal via their system.

Thinking about it it might have been in Lost Ark but same difference as that run by AGS too.

Some innocent people might get banned but I start getting a little suspicious when I see multiple new accounts come here and tell their sob story of how they got banned for no reason and that you should not play the game.

Here on MMORPG anyone can make a new account and say that as a way of trolling through FUD.

The problem is that games have auto-report features these days. Often its a simple menu where one picks a canned response and then if enough people do it, someone gets warned or banned. It happened recently to a friend. He was in a 5 man in WOW classic, it went about how PUGS go and he got frustrated and left. One players guild mass reported him for something and he got warned (he fought with Blizzard over that and won). Games should not allow for mass reporting unless you can see their character or their name in chat.

Having a report feature isn't the problem.  Automatically banning people for being reported too much is the problem.  It's fine for a company to rely on player reports to flag situations that a mod should have a closer look at.  Perhaps it's even fine for reports to automatically mute a player for a short time in chat, so long as a mod will look at it promptly to decide whether it was warranted.  But game companies have to accept that relying on player reports will result in some false positives--and be willing to punish the players who conspire to create those false positives.

But no one should ever have to guess what they did wrong.
That right there I think is a good point.  Just saying you "cheated" is too vague.  Especially for a temporary ban, if it was for using some particular exploit, they should tell you so that you realize that it's regarded as a bannable exploit and don't do it again.

Really, though, if you object to games that are careless about banning innocent players and think New World is one of them, then leave a nasty Steam review and quit.  If you just keep playing (or worse, buy another account to continue playing), then you're telling them that you don't mind their ban policies.
Well said and I agree, I did that a couple of days ago and I have been updating the review as well.

Same here for the last 25 years until New World.  That is a lot of gaming to not have even a single blemish on my record.  Even with New World it took 1900 hours of game time for the first 7 day ban and 3 months later a permanent one.   I hope you continue to have a perfect record and if that changes and you are innocent no one tells you 'where there is smoke there is fire.'

Quite honestly, if I had received a 7 day ban for no apparent reason and without proper explanation I would have quit right there, wouldn't have been any need for them to reinstate me.

Good luck to you in the future, hopefully your next game will treat you better.

A friend of mine told me about the article Steven Weber wrote.   I believe it was well written and unfortunately (for me) due to my recent experience I can give you insight of what some of the player base is going through.  If he had not seen the article I would not have come here.  You can believe I am suspicious but with the experience I gave is the process of appealing bans something you would want to go through?  Fairly certain the answer would be no.

Wait, your first ban was a 7 days one, directly ? That's not a ban for just insulting someone in chat, that's for something way worse.

I believe that I can accurately say that I have (most likely) banned more accounts than anyone in this thread. The reason that an accounts get banned is usually pretty solid. It is a lot of effort and work to identify the correct accounts, and to take the appropriate actions. Sure, there may be a few accounts that are just unlucky, but it is the rare exception (not the rule that people would have you believe).

However, having said this, the real problem is often that the CS people don't have the information, or the ability to discern the difference in instances like this. There really isn't much that they can do, without escalating this, and requiring another major investigation (again with the high effort). This generally doesn't happen.

I, personally, have been on the receiving end of unfair bans. Sometimes I know what caused it: a competitor knew who I was, the account was compromised, etc. Sometimes I didn't, and just had to accept it.  Just like everyone else, I reached out to CS, and tried to resolve this, to varying degrees of success. I do have the advantage of being able to reach out to others in the industry for assistance, but I also understand the realities of how this works.

Correct that is why I posted to the official New World forums asking what I should do since I had no idea why I was banned for 7 days except that AGS said I 'cheated'.  I had already appealed the day I was banned but one of the admins on the forums told me how to include my logs.  I did that as well.  I never heard from either appeal except for the auto response you get right away they were working on it.  What else could I have done?  Some say they would have quit and they are right but I had enjoyed the game a lot and due to my past record and knowing I had not 'cheated' I played.

You are right anyone can create an account and state they were wrongfully banned but that honestly does not prove anything either way.

anyone get any luck from AGS on the cause of the random bans?

I have been trying. it gets lifted tomorrow, but will not let it drop as i still have no clue why it was banned even after trying to speak to the morons at AGS appeals via a dozon or so tickets.

i have is a table stating banned in my data when requested from amazon and i think this is all they have too. i have no clue and i think they have no clue!

p.s. i will laugh to see when any of these high and mighty people of cheat and you get kicked guilty as they said you are get booted randomly.

After new-worlds rather sketchy release process, you really dont think that the same idiots were not involved in the detection and coded automation of the ban process.

maybe ill ask my 5 year old if he wants to work as a tester or coder for amazon game studios.
