It'll likely be more of the same; the same mistakes are easy to repeat.

    Time will tell i guess.

AA1 was supposed to be the next WoW killer....How'd that work out? All hype and no substance.

Are you talking about thunderstruck in the cash shop or something else?

Yeah, I was there in beta and early release too and was really enjoying myself until I ran into their cash grabs like that and the gear improvement chance items.

Yep! When they basically put TS trees on the cash shop that seemed to be one of the major things that started the exodus. Shortly after that they opened up Auroria, and half the server couldn't login. Those 2 things were what killed it for most of my guild members.

It had quite a bit of substance. It was just killed by a P2W cash shop.

It was monetized to hell and gone for the whales and regular gamers just didn't stick around. The sad thing is they most likely made far more money out of said whales in a very short time than they would have out of long time casual players. These types of games are no longer made by gamers for gamers, but rather made by pimps for whores.

Been playing Archage f2p throughout the summer, the game has many players. Kakao has done a amazing job retaining people. Think I spent more money in Archeage over ther summer then any other game in the past 2 years.

Actually playing the game with the farming aspect for the first time, keep me coming back. So much in farming that can be done it is probably the best game in it's category for it.

Upgrading gear is much more straight forward and accessible. The fact that Kakao has created a non p2w subscription service should be noted as a positive. Both servers have a solid community.

So, y'all that LOL'd at this comment....like WTF, if you LOL'd that likely means you played, and had a blast up to a point. Why LOL at them if they are having a similar experience, and enjoying the game? This is being asked from someone who played from 3 months after launch, until about 2 years ago.....those saying that it's because of Trion (def was a mistake, but), BS......the revenue generation was hard coded in as mechanics FFS...XLGames developed the game this way. That's what inevitably sank that ship. Including finally making gear regrading how it should of been from launch. Although that was like our own SW Galaxies NGE moment for some of us. .../stomps off cursing

Upgrading gear was the last straw for me. It was a complete crapshoot. If this has been fixed, I may try the game again.

I doubt they would drop their casino gambling system for gear upgrading, maybe somebody can comment?

That and the land grab it was so important to the game.  If they make housing instanced like Wildstar or something similar I will check it out.

And that is the one feature that isn't likely to change much, maybe at first, but not in the long run.

I am not sure whether you guys know this from reading my threads or my responses in threads but then again that seems presumptuous of me to assume you would so let me just say I play for reasons that are not the ones the majority of the player base play a game for.

For instance I played Archeage for the trading aspect. My love for this part of an MMORPG world blossomed when I played BDO where I built better and bigger wagons and travelled very, very far to deliver my goods. I even spent time reading and experimenting on the type of worker races that might increase my production, pity I could not make better beer.

The thing is when I first started Archeage I had come to play it at a time when the game was no longer flourishing and land wasn't as scarce. I got myself a good size plot and I had huge plans of an apiary and I was excited to make better goods and travel and make money. I even plotted my travel times around the peaceful time of the zones that could become full PvP. I was truly invested.

Then something I did not notice began to dawn on me and pour cold water on all my plans. You have to log in daily. I mean the animals will die and your plants will wither. This struck me as so idiotic. How can you expect people to log in daily? We have lives that may have problems where we cannot log in for days only to come back to total devastation. I made the decision to leave the game and when I gave up the plot where my house stood and looked back they actually burned the house down, talk about drama.

There is this Disney game on Steam called Dreamlight Valley that follows your computer clock but unlike Animal Crossing you cannot change your computer clock it seriously bugs your game out. So people who have jobs and work only see night time in the game. Daft decisions like this make me wonder whether game developers expect people to play without regard to their real lives.

I don't remember having to log in daily. I thought larders took three days. Even then, you convert them and just store them on your land until you had time.

It's been a while. I could be wrong.

p.s. It is not free to play. I downloaded it and played for about an hour. When I tried to log back in, they wanted a sub. Was the F2P for a limited time?

    I wouldnt say addicted
Most ppl get tired from loging every day to harvest potatoes and uninstall
Few studios are going to keep systems which are counterproductive, are you sure about that? Seems to me they would ditch it if they realized people were leaving because of it.

In MMORPGS, the answer has almost always been yes, you are expected to log in daily, for several hours a day at a minimum to accomplish much of anything of value.

Time spent has always received great reward, for folks with real life jobs and family obligations you have to find ways to carve out some fun just like you did as much of the higher tiers content is out of reach of the more casual player.

There has to be more for those who put more time in, my own concern is that we have shifted from more dungeons and PvP to more dailies and then to more resource gathering. Dailies and gathering resources are not what a MMORPGs mainstay of play should be.
