Alpha testers can now jump into the new MMORPG from Stormhaven Studios, Embers Adrift, finally able to see the live game come to fruition. This is ahead of the full launch which takes place on Friday.

    Downloading it now. I backed the game a long time ago when it was under its old name. Won't hurt to check it out for a few hours I suppose

    I just watched a couple of streamers who are streaming it on Twitch (you're allowed to stream gameplay). Game looks laughably dated and simplistic, like something that belongs to the late 90's, which is what I expected from a tiny team of people with tiny budget.

    I understand that some people don't mind that but that's definitely not something I'd ever spend money on, especially as a person who have never enjoyed "bashing dumb AI enemies or clicking on gather/craft button billions of times" in any MMORPG game.

    Yeah, its not great. Played for about forty-five minutes. The tutorial is rough and if you choose a forester like me its freaking rough. Everyone is going skinner because it is hard to find a freaking tree log to gather materials for the tutorial quest. Not only that but the game is rough and controls weird

    Oh its not just the streams, as a backer I can tell you it doesn't play well either.
    Absolutely dumbfounded that they chose to release in this state...

    Wow, surprised to read these comments. Just played it for 4 hours and enjoyed it quite a bit. Yeah, it looks kinda ugly but it has its own charm and nice atmosphere.

    I backed it about a year ago and played alpha weekends now and then. I can only say that it has progressed immensely in the last year and if the pace continues it will be even better going forward!

    Waiting for some friends to login.  Can't bring myself to do it solo.

    I can usually tell if I like something or not in less than 300 hours. But heck, maybe that's just me...

    I think Josh Strife Hayes says it the best... You don't need 300 or 400 hours in a MMO. A game shouldn't take 300-400 hours to get good. You can tell a quality of something in a hour or two

    Granted I didn't do that either but if the game controlled better then I would have

    If a game doesn't grab people in the first hour it isn't going to get better for them. This whole you have to play it more for it to get good is a horrible opinion, IMO.

    Due to the slow rate of progression in Embers Adrift you certainly can't make any judgments about character abilities and how they function in play in only 45 minutes, making any related observations superficial at best.

    Many things can be judged quickly though, so if those are deterring enough there isn't much point in hanging around to evaluate the remainder.

    B2P with an optional subscription and a cash shop, maybe. I doubt f2p entirely.

    Oh no, any moment somebody is going to say, "it's better with friends". That will put the nail in the coffin for me, well until a year after launch anyway.
