I really need some help here...

Hello, this is my first post here so first I want to say hello to everyone.

Now, here is my situation. I really would love to have a great MMO to play, make friends on, and adventure with. I have read so many reviews about so many different games and all in all I really feel that I need a player's perspective.

I really crave a medieval theme base to an MMO such as EQ 2, Lineage 2, and FF XI. I played FXI for about a year and a half on and off but have completely lost inerest due to repetative content (skill leveling for an hour just to get a 0.1 skillup while wasting every piece of gil I had), not the best graphics, gil-sellers, campers etc... (To those who love FFXI don't be flustered this is just my opinion).

Right now I play Guild Wars, which is a great game. However, there's just not enough content I'm already level 20 and got an Uber dude and... yea there's just nothing more for me (and I consider myself a casual gamer).

Here's what I'd like to do for people willing to help me out on selecting a new MMO, I will list off things that I'd like in a game, and based on them, you veterens can recommend what you think would suit me. So here goes,

-great graphics (I've got a 128 Vid card but I know there are tons of games that look great on them)

-quests that give experiance as well as items

-non-cartoonish atmosphere (I want to feel like I can take the game seriously, for me that helps motivate me to develop my character)

-skills and professions (extending more than just the kill monster grind)

- be able to PL other players (cure them even tho they're not in your party)

-tons of character customizability (so I won't see my double while adventureing)

-lots of different armor types (types that might fit a gamers style)

-reap the benifets of success (rewards that match the time spent)

-not an incredibly harsh death penalty

-a good flexible economy (like an auciton system)

-raids on towns/mobs

-being able to solo/party at most all level ranges

-a fun and easy way of leveling skills (not just pressing two buttons for a week straight)

PvP doesn't really matter to me except in things like raids, I'm more of a PvE kinda guy. I love scenery and just getting lost in the depth and adventuring of a MMO. I've checked out Lineage 2 and EQ 2 but have heard many different reviews, everything from the game sucks to it rocks. Can anyone offer me advice based on the criteria I've mentioned above? Thank you very much, for taking the time to help me out, hopefully I can find something really great with your help!

    100% Ditto

I have been coming to MMORPG for months dreaming, hoping for something to catch my eye.  I have played most "Mainstream" MMO's and had fun in almost all.

I am looking for almost exactly what you listed.  But right now I am bored.  Willing to try anything, even "gulp" a PVP game.  I understand most that read these forums like PVP.  Cool.  I don't.  I just don't care for the idea of someone running up to me when I am checking on my kids or something and someone killing me and taking what I earned just because they leveled faster or have better gear.  Not my thing.  To many it is and I do not desparage that.  I just don't care for it.  I refuse to condemn the PVP community because I don't enjoy it.  So please don't flame me.  I have seen enough PvP in real life to play it in a game.

From what I have seen.... the perfect game (albeit for me)

L2 character models and some armor/ EQ2 and GW Terrain

    SWG/EVE-Online Community

CoH customization of the way my "character" looks

Crafting.  yes crafting heh.  Sometimes when I get off work I don't wanna travel for 30 minutes to play for 20.  So I craft to unwind from work.

Add these to the above posts requirements and I have found a game for life.

But as you can see by my post rating I am new.  Maybe I am only dreaming

1st off Welcome Ellias and Ravenbow

Sadly the game you want does not exist

    Yet

Kind of like the list Ravenbow made, we have to pick and choose what we can get out of a MMORPG at the moment. There isn't a seamless blend that ties in all the things we want in a nice package with a shiny red bow.

The MMORPG genre is changing, some say for the better, some say for the worse, but none the less it's changing. Some are being "dumbed" down to make it less hardcore, catering to people who can only play a few hours a week (like Guild Wars). Well others are playing to their audience of hardcore gamers (like Jedi's in SWG).

It is very hard to mimic a living breathing world on a computer. The only game that really has come close (at least the only one I know of) was Morrowind, and that was just a single player game, and it still had it's fair share of bugs and problems.

There will never be a perfect MMORPG, since everyone is different, and enjoys different things. There may one day be a game that does blend all the elements you want in a game together, but it just isn't here yet.

Until then bounce around and see what fits your tastes and what you enjoy, or if you play games with some friends stick with them, misery loves company

    So true,

Well then after doing a lot of research I've narrowed things down to EQ2 or Lineage2, I just have a few questions about both.

I know that EQ2 does not support the healing of others when they are 'locked' in a battle. For instance, in FFXI I would see a lowbie in trouble so I'd cast a few cures on him to save him (even though we weren't in a party) and he'd live (sometimes). A lot of the time the person would be very grateful and in fact, I made a lot of friends this way. Does Lineage2 support this type of thing? And even though EQ2 does not, are there other ways to help out lowbies who might have gotten themselves in a fight a little over thier head?

Also, I hear the EQ2 looks fantastic graphicly. Most people I hear that play the game have 256mg graphics cards. My question is how well does a 128mg push in that game? and is the visual quality still amazing?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out guys.

Well you are in a bit of a quandry unless you can make some compromise. based on your first post, you really eliminated pretty much every mmo on the current market.

Of the two you selected, L2 is PVP centric not a great deal of PVE content if you are PVE centered also it is very very grind heavy.

EQ2 sounds more like an ideal mmo, except for the Power leveling part. The downside of locked encounters is it really limits player interaction alot from this end. As a heads up it is a bit grindy as well, not nearly so much as L2 but still pretty grindy.

Now as to will your card support EQ2, well being blunt about it a 128mb graphics card is honestly meaningless if its a cheap card or the rest of your system sucks. Yes a 128 card can run EQ2 well but there needs to be specifics. I played it and know what it take's to have a good gameplay experience list your exact specs and I can tell you what to expect.

Video card model, Ram, Cpu type/speed are going to be the most important criteria for a general critique, the more info the better obviously.

The nvidia 6600gt is a 128mb card. By no means is that card a bad video card. FYI the rules of vid cards has changed a little bit. One of the newer 128mb cards will stomp a older 256mb card. Hopefully thats what he has image

If your not dead set crazy on the graphics being the best on the market Id reccomend two games to you, Asherons Call 1 and Dark Ages of Camelot. DAOC has a free trial while AC1 does not. I think you can get both games for 30 dollars each --all expansions.

Notice I specified a Cheap card...trust me I understand every change that has happened with graphics cards, I know of several older 128mb cards that will still cream the majority of newer 256mb cards.

Two that come to mind that will trash any current budget card are the Ti-4600 and the 9800 pro.

But again, we need to know specifically what he has as that is determination of how his pc will handle EQ2..afterall I started EQ2 on a 128mb card and it did just fine..but it was that Ti-4600.
