Anyone find the Review to be abit wrong?

2 points really

The graphics arn't outdated at all, only bad thing is the engine performance is soo crap you can't turn it up that much (that on a x800xt)

The sound from the game is some of the best i heard! Personally i find it second to eve.

I tend to agree about the graphics.  I just resubbed about 2 weeks ago and while they are not bad and I think the dragon and sslik graphics are quite good, and the sky actually.  The others and the mountains are quite bland, and blocky looking.  Look at the hair of all the races... no real detail can't see strands, just blah.  Now I hate the character models in Wow, blocky bland garbage but the background is quite nice.  And EQ2 I think are great and very details graphics, sigh if only I could see them when I move hehe.  I just like to see every little detail on my characters and really the only ones you can do that for in this game is dragons and sslik.

Again Sslik and dragons and sky are awesome.

As for the music I am of two minds.  It is quite haunting and for exploring it is generally quite good.  However there is no music that makes for feel spooked out, or pumped up and when crafting the music puts me to sleep.

So overall I think the review as pretty accurate.  One thing I to tend to disagree with is the biped combat.  While yes it is kinda bland, the sheer number of classes you can play, to mix and match your own style, IMO kinda makes up for that.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

I think the music in Horizons is the most thoughtful, atmospheric and understatedly unobtrusive and amazing music ever made for any game ever. Also the graphics I think are great just that the engine chugs too much. I agree scara with those 2 points completely.

    graphics rating was correct.

say for sky graphics the horizons engine is showing its age. Much of Lesser Aradoth looks like a very bland green golf course.

As far as sound goes its not bad but WoW blows it completely out of the water.

Or that niether of them is that great when you consider for both games the music scores will take a cheap syn to reproduce and maybe a days worth of work.

But its how the person that is hearing that matters the most.

Why do you feel the need to press Enter after every sentence? lol Anyways I heartily disagree that it would take a days worth of work to reproduce. The songs in Horizons are inspired and crafted wonderfully. They never get repetitive and are unobtrusive and addictive. I'd love to hear a soundtrack that you worked for only a day on, or anyone for that matter. Would probably end up being and extended version of Old Mcdonald hehe.

I'm a musician and have been well over half of my life on this planet and I love the Horizons music, but you are oh so correct: it's how the person that is hearing it that matters the most. image Let's see your post in a paragraph now....

Isn't that soooo much more palatable to read? image

As for the graphics i find them more or less okay -- but less impressive than those in lets say lineage II (and I don't mean the sexistic female costumes, i mean landscapes) ::::39::

What I miss in the review is the subject 'plots' and 'construction' -- it is a unique feature of hz that you can actually build yourself a home there...

I agree with you about the graphics.  So far Ive played five MMOGs, excluding EQ2, horizons graphics are par from everyone else in the market so far.  Sure Jon Wood, might be right if this review was made four years from now.  Maybe Jon forgot to turned up the graphics settings while playing, since he had trouble locating opening the window to edit his hot keys.

I think Jon Wood have played and reviewed alot of MMOGs, his opinion on what would be good is different then ours.  Even possible he have played some of the future release games that we havent seen yet.  Then maybe he been playing EQ2 too much, since nobody yet have been able to compare what EQ2 have.

    another note,

the one thing that is missing from the review is about the client.  ive played Horizons for about a year then left and came back in march for that open house.  That client is very unstable running on Windows.  Ive crashed so many times in Horizons.  I even crashed in the first five minutes when I visited in march.  Been playing alot of since I left this game, I have never experience such a crappy client that is working with Horizons.  Every other game Ive played that have been a solid,  its very rare to crash when I was playing EQ2, now with SoR, Ive never crashed yet.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

In referring to the graphics are you talking about the character skins or the landscape?

Personally I prefer the char skins in HZ over WoW, but EQ2 is better.

Landscape? It looked great when I went to HZ from EQ but now they DO look dated. You CAN post screenies that make it look good, but anyone can do that, about any game.

WoW may be low res but they are far more colorful and imaginatively designed, a much greater variety of rock, tree, grass and snow. Compare Dun Morogh to Winterspring, both are snowscapes but not quite the same. Compare the elf forest Teldrassil to the human Elwynn, the open plains of the barrens to the yellow Westfall.

EQ2 goes for the more realistic. Water, waving flora, rock, stone. These are more detailed than HZ, though perhaps not more interesting.

If you REALLY think that horizons graphics compare favorably with ALL current games then try this. Post on the General discussion forum and ask which current games have the best graphics, and politely suggest that horizons should be in the top 5, or 10.

The last time somebody posted a similar thread, HZ was never mentioned.
