The game now costs $29 and you get 1 month free sub. You will be done with this game in a month anyways, so the real price is $29. If you knew you would only play for 1 month tops would it even be worth $5?
Depends on the amount of time I put into it. I'm playing Kingdom of Atham now. Played it for the last few weeks. Will probably play it for 2 more before we have finished the content. I have over 100 hours into it so yeah. Well worth it even for a months play. Most non-mmorpgs can be finished in 30-40 hours time yet many cost $50 or more.
Worth it? Well if I get 50 hours of fun and pay $50 then to me yeah it's worth it. Like I said, I think they need to go the optional VIP sub route. Their core will still pay but the world will be more full of players and some of those players will convert.

If it was actually a better graphical representation of Everquest I would be all over it but unfortunately it was nowhere near that. I am sorry I got bored to tears playing it.

I agree with your point about games costing $50 and only offering 50-100 hours of gameplay and still being worth it. Thats my point actually, its not the price of the game its the quality of the game thats the problem. Usually games are "REALLY FUN" for 30+ hours.
With embers its just hopium people are on. If people knew at the start that what they were seeing from levels 5-15 was the only fun part of this game, then people wouldnt be so enthused.
People are thinking at level 5 that this game is starting to scratch that itch, they are hoping its gets better. It doesnt, it gets worse actually. Once they figure that out, the potential of what could be is meeting the reality of what is.
After level 20, people are going to be in exactly the same place with exactly the same feelings of "this is not worth my time" regardless of the price. Time is worth more than FREE, you cant get it back, this game is not worth wasting your time on it.

This is the crux of it. I can think of a half dozen other games I could play for free that are better than this game off the top of my head.

Embers isn't worth investing time in no matter the price because the quality is so subpar. You really need to release something that's going to compete with the free stuff I listed above for me. This doesn't even come close.

To the contrary, not very many games are "really fun" for 30+ hours. A game that genuinely is really fun for 30+ hours is a good value on nearly any business model unless you have to be a whale to play.
The problem isn't the games that are fun for 30+ hours and then get boring. The problem is the games that never were fun in the first place.
sad when people beg for a game exactly like EMbers and they refuse to play it because it doesnt have ... sad.
Yeah how dare I expect a MMORPG to actually have magic in it. I typically play casters or caster/healer hybrids like Shaman or Druids. I never play melee or archers. The concept f a more modern EQ style game I was all for. Then I found out everyone is a melee or archer even the healers and I never looked back. A lot of my friends felt the same way. We all skipped it. We'll have to wait and hope Pantheon someday releases and if they do, is actually decent. We'll settle for decent not even good at this point lol. As long as its got many of the things EQ had like, oh I don't know, magic classes?
I'm glad Embers exists for people looking for the tradition pve experience, I wish them all the best !
I'm afraid we might have significantly less people who want traditional PvE experiences because Embers exists.
you're pretending that million of mmo fans played the game. 10k people bought the game. maybe and not even 1% are on these forums. The typical diatribe of leeches trying to get there "this game sucks cause its not wow" fix imho.

The problem isn't the games that are fun for 30+ hours and then get boring. The problem is the games that never were fun in the first place.
First you are just restating my point again, seems to be common in alot of threads. I will clarify for you again.
(Successful) games are usually "REALLY FUN" for 30+ hours. It takes a dozen hours for the hopium to wear off. Its extremely common for people to say they are having fun in a game in the first few hours they play. The problem is later when they realize the game doesnt live up to their expectations.
What this game needs to do is actually make their game FUN, because the price is not the real issue. The real issue is its not fun so that is the main reason its not worth it.
I hate to see any project fail. Because at one time I am certain there was passion and enthusiasm to create this MMORPG. It's not easy managing a project. Budgeting, hiring talent, development, managment, etc. I'd ask all the experts in here to try doing that some time. But it's easy to be a critic.
But I never saw this game to be interesting. I ALMOST bought into in beta or alpha, but held off. Later, I was invited to a server test and it took me all of 5 minutes to know this was not the game for me. And I have been playing MMOs for 20 years. This may appeal to a very small niche, but I hope all of them succeed.

surprise, the game wasn't built for you... not everything has to cater to your wants. What can we do when a generation of people all got trophies.
Surprise Surprise thats what i said the game isn't for me. Reading comprehension is your friend. I listed what the game would need to be for me. Hence I knew it wasn't for me and I didn't buy it. Oh and guess what neither did all but about 10k people in the entire world. Had they had a fully fleshed out fantasy world with magic, their numbers would have likely been considerably better initially. Which would have meant considerably more money. Which in turn would equal more developers being hired, which would have equaled more content at a faster pace. But really now who would want that? Much better it has none and has 50 people playing it nightly, brilliant design decision.
Point of order, the Embers devs didn't necessarily release the game with all of the features they really wanted to build into it, but the money their investor gave them to release by a certain date had run dry, so out the door it went.
I think it was a bit of a tactical mistake to go dark during that year or so especially when something not well explained occurred which sent two of the original founders out the door and a change in direction in terms of IP and lore.
They also stopped soliciting more funding at the same time which while a noble gesture may have significantly reduced the total available income to flesh out the game some.
Probably should have sold land, or spaceships even, gamers love buying both in large $ amounts.

Apparently he and his brother "stepped away" and he started working on something else so it made me think of Dean Hall.
Just to give some context. When the CEO Anderson was there, they had magic and fantasy enemies like trolls.
When he left the team completely reversed and took out all the magic and fantasy mobs, and went to a "non-magic and non-fantasy" setting. Its only after release have they reversed again and started adding a few fantasy mobs back into the game after their game completely tanked at release.
I will tell you straight, that 1 single change probably cost them at least 10x-50x the players. This had to be the stupidest decision I have ever heard of for an mmo, especially since the content was already in the game.
I dont know why the CEO/Bro left/forced out was. But I can easily see a scenario where he was put into a no-win scenario. The lead dev (only programmer) could easily have said if you dont leave I am going to quit. It could have been over the above reason for all I know.
So leaving voluntarily or being forced out is all subjective and I dont know enough details to know what the real reasons were. Pretty sure it had to be something big like either a vision reset, or a personality conflict with the lead dev or money backer.
The lead dev and also the CEO was real cocky so I wouldnt be surprised if it was personality conflict, but this is normal with Type A personalities. So without more detail, we are in the dark.
The drop in sub price is a surprise as that immediately hits their long term revenue (and thereby funding) for the game. Decreasing the box price is a smart move but they still don't have a strong enough value proposition to get people on the fence to shell out even that box price. Until they provide a standard trial (not free weekends but sign up and get 3 or 7 days free), I just don't see enough people taking the plunge to dramatically increase their player base. I give them credit for making changes as they go, but by the time they do allow a standard trial I worry it may be too late....

Low fantasy has nothing at all to do with quest hubs or mini-maps. It's like if I had a website for a game and it said-
