All this talk about NW not having proper female avatar's confuses me.
My granddaughters were watching me play on my alt this weekend and asked (again) why I always play "girl" characters, so clearly the 9 yrs could discern.
(Told them I don't "always" play female avatars, just mostly).

You're easily impressed the only thing memorable about Yonas was how annoying that quest was and how it was nerfed.
I bet you thought the squater in Edengrove was memorable too!
Nah. I just have a very low tolerance for mindless bullshit like "I hate NW so I will bash absolutely everything about it indiscriminately."
You would have to be a very oblivious moron to have played since they did the zone revamps and Brimstone sands last fall and not remember Grace O'Malley and Yonnas in the revamped starter zones or Imhotep in Brimstone sands since they are constantly in your face giving you follow-up quests and advancing the stories.
You guys just need to learn to pick your hate spots better. When you claim to hate everything you lose all credibility and god knows, NW has plenty of legit hateable features.
Dislike is one thing but blithering idiots BSing is another.

Pretty funny considering the amount of BS you spout in these forums!
I have been playing since before launch I quite like lots of things in this game and could not be considered a hater of the game by anyone with two braincells however I am not an apologists or white knight either and choosing this hill to die just goes to show who is really spouting the BS here.
You and gramps kyle are just being contrary old men here! It's okay though you two keep on keepin on and padding those posts counts.

So you remember Yoanas and no one else? Have you actually set foot in Brimstone Sands? Met Imhotep? Cleopatra? (bonus points if you have since you have to complete the Ennead expedition for that one.)

Try making two characters, one of each "body type", with the same hairstyle and armor and do that experiment again. I guarantee you that they won't be able to tell them apart without looking really close (if at all, depending of your face choices). There is no difference in animations, and body shapes are almost indistinguishable.
I don't know why some developers are so focused on ignoring feminine women, as if their existence was some sort of sin. Or as if being feminine had anything to do with sexualization. They do a good job being sexist while trying to not be sexist. Or maybe it's just laziness on their part, which is almost as bad.

I have done all expeditions and run muts with my company, in fact couple us help some of the lesser geared peeps through them. All 625 armor and all weapons at 600 expertise. All glyphs unlocked.
My two or three banks holding all my 600+ and 590 gear probably makes all the scrub crap you have in all your banks look like garbage and that's only on my fresh start server main...lol
Oh btw being old ins't an insult, I'm old too so I know how some of us get stuck in our own BS which is pretty much par for the course for you two.

Indeed they must have forgot to put thier glasses on when they play! jesting aside...lol
I think its just trying to be modern and "woke" while also being lazy, a bit of both.
They did do good on the world itself even though there lots of copy pasting involved, I just love running through mouringdale on the main road going north and it starts to rain...its just looks so good!

Of course people care. Maybe not individually, but the graphics and characters and terrain and buildings..... create the atmosphere for the game. Otherwise, you could just have boxes running around. The look and feel of a game creates the atmosphere. It's very important.
Do you even play NW? I think not.
I mean there's not like that many npc anyways...so yeah ofc people care in the some sense but not in the sense this article is talking about...
Our own avatars are more important than the npc in NW by far so yeah my statement stands, no on in NW really cares about the npc and care far more about their own avatars.
Stop being ridiculous man this whole article is a damned joke...our avatars and the stumpy cross dressed "females" in it ruin any kind of atmosphere npc's can add by far...lol
I love immersion I got a ton of immersion mods in my current game of cyberpunk 2077 however in NW there's no point cause of the shitty character creation as it kills immersion far too much for any kind of npc immersion to matter.
You think correct. I played a lot, but eventually stopped because I grow bored with more structured games. However, my comment is in general about any game. Creating an atmosphere is important, otherwise, there would be no need for complex graphics. I'm talking bigger picture than this individual NPC.

Nah it's simpler. Saying that Yonnas, Grace O'Malley, Isabella (thanks Korigan for reminding me,) Imhotep, and Cleopatra are not memorable characters is just pure BS.
I mean we're talking fucking video games here and those are memorable characters in that context.
Saying otherwise is just ignorant.
So have you met Cleopatra? You didn't say so I'll take that as a no, you haven't done the Ennead.... scrub.

Fair enough I was speaking specifically about NW. I would agree in most games NPC's are really important.
I just feel your comment while quoting me wasn't really relevant to what I was saying since I was not talking about video games in general but a about NW specifically and some particular issues it has.

define a strong female? is it one that beats up all the men?
Females? In New World? Please.... My Steam review centered around the matter, written sometime last year:
The character creation system in itself is laughable, and a complete pandering to the modern American PC culture, where every issue and topic relates to some faux-social movement. In this brave New World, women don't resemble women but men. There exists no method, magical or otherwise, to create an even marginally attractive female character because the game developers designed their female models androgynous to the effect that "sexualization" was never in question (because, as we know, there are no good looking people in real life, therefore there can't be in a video game either). No one asked for Korean Black Desert-esque characters; but some of us would like to create an appealing fictional fantasy character, given this is a fictional fantasy setting. Guess that is asking too much from a game in the Deplorable Year of 2022.
JFC, put the card back in the deck.
Some people have had their minds completely shattered by knee-jerk reactionary politics.
MMOrpgs are not about NPC characters they are about the players or at least they used be.
That's honestly how I've always felt about mmorpgs. Sure I've had some memorable questing moments like back in WotLK for example, but most of my memories come from doing stuff with guilds/friends/randos. I think this 'mmorpgs need to have a good story/characters' stik is just an excuse for people to stay in their own bubbles and at least not make memories for themselves on their own. Its easier to find a 'good story' or 'good characters' in single player games anyway.
I think people aren't being honest. There's times I wept for npc's. One was a bright young cadet who wanted to do the right thing and his death so horrid I couldnt continue playing the game and the other a such a cute friendly fellow stung by poison, even now a form water at the corner of my eyes for a fallen pixel friend..
MMOrpgs are not about NPC characters they are about the players or at least they used be.
When this one was playing ESO and he had a choice to save the Queen/ Kingdom at the cost of his NPC "friend" Razum-dar's life ....this one was really torn...
He thought, "What's another 500 years of warfare against the powers of darkness?"
Spoiler Alert:
Raz and this one still tell tales about our shared adventures together in taverns throughout Auridon. Perhaps one day he'll even forgive me for saving him.

That would be my fault. It is not uncommon for me to read greater intent than there really is. I don't know why, but I extrapolate the specific into the global. I apologize for spinning your intent.

Yes I remember thinking "STFU Grace O'Malley!!" Every time I started a character in the newbie zone.
