I was kind of giving up myself even thought there's some decent games to play. Out of sheer curiousity I began playing aion because I never really played it in an in depth way. I'm level 20 and my hotbar is almost filled up with skills and potions. The combat is super slow but yet i'm on the edge of my seat sometimes.

I'm almost feel like i'm training myself for Throne and Liberty xD

I played the crap out of Aion back in the day; until the Abyss became ruled by twd gankers and exploiters and no one wanted to do runs there anymore. Abyss was part of the progression so really it slowed a lot of players from progressing in the game.

It  has something new mmos are lacking and it's with in the combat. I can't quite put my finger on exactly the "it" is. It could be a better sense of danger when navigating the world and needed to choose wisely instead of action combat aoe everything.

IT will be interesting how Throne and Liberty feels...

I'm assuming they wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't some indication that there is an appetite for it.  Have you info to the contrary?

As long as you find something that fills the void even if its only for a month consider it a win I got quite a few pals online and irl that gave up gaming because nothing makes them happy anymore.
Why do you think this happens?

I could not progress in this game because certain bottlenecks you need to pass were blocked by gankers so I left it promptly after playing since beta a long time ago. Never tried it again.

Aion is a good game and I really enjoyed the first year or so , then things starting getting "odd" ," Not there is anything wrong with that " as Jerry said,  just to much "odd" for me.

Classic Aion is pretty faithful to the original. I forgot how as a noob you couldn't take on 10 npc at once. One mob at time, hide, heal, rinse repeat. If you agroed a second mob into your fight, better run. Reaching level 10 was an achievement; though now it looks like they got some XP booster (wasn't a thing back in 2008-2009). Few games do this much anymore. Even the older games are easy mode now.

Why do you think this happens?
    Many reasons here's my list

First devs don't run on passion like they did in the old days and even when they do they focus on what they want a little to much end up getting self absorbed in pride and stop caring about the people who they are selling to.

Second most startup games are built on debt they need to turn a profit to pay back investors as soon as possible, so alot of pressure is there inflation going up and the need to pay people even more makes this issue even more apparent which nothing is wrong for paying someone  for doing their job properly but its an expense which is added to what I said prior which is the  moment a game is built on debt or whatever start up funds they have the clocks ticking, the longer it takes the more chances are it will bust.

Third bad actors like chronicles of elyria or get quick rich schemes cough cough blockchain

Fourth a continuation of the second over monetization, that or and not knowing how to monetize their game properly, I still think runescape does it the best they give enough of the base game for free with no ingame cash caps or level caps except for only member only skills, I refuse to play any game that labels itself as free if their are ingame currency caps or level caps.

Fifth this is just my personal opinion but being on steam for pc games is huge because it helps you get your name out their faster and more efficiently if you are trying to hide shit people will refund the game and warn everyone of everything you try to hide, point being is I trust steam to enable me to get my money back at any given time as long as I haven't played more then an hour or 2 if your not on steam your already sketchy as hell to me which limits your customer base because they are already taking a gamble, also its alot harder to censor steam reviews when your not steam.
Ok, thank you for that. But let's focus more on people now. Why does "nothing make them happy anymore"? Could there be more reasons except hyperfocusing on the bottom line? Perhaps fatigue of sorts?

Probably burn out your probably in a state where your like me where nothing makes you perfectly happy/content it happens when something that used to play game wise made you happy but suddenly didn't, my friends got a dose of that the hard way and hard stopped playing anything.
So, in short: inflation got out of hand. And then you're left feeling weak and directionless. This naturally spills over to games(gfx card prices etc).

    Something like that?

I think the problem is that for the most part, you are supposed to be in a guild or at least grouping.

The original game did have its share of pvp, mostly in the Abyss. So the expectation would be to get people together to do abyss quests and if you are attacked then that is part of the pvp game play.

In truth I liked this but I get it, if one is soloing one can get their butt handed to them and after a while that isn't fun for the soloer.

Even now, at my whopping lvl 9 I am wondering if I should continue and join an active guild or just play until I can no longer progress.

This was one of those games where people really began to complain about owpvp systems in Korean games. While most Koreans played with a bit more honor and respect, a majority of Western players apparently wanted to burn the world down.

Back in the old days they had this system where lowby players couldn't be attacked by higher level players, so people figured out you could artificially keep your level low indefinitely with xp dept but max your gear. This allowed them to pretty much own areas of the Abyss where actual lowbies where trying to run quests for their Abyss gear. Mostly camping gates and insta-killing them as the appeared pretty much completely preventing them from advancing in the Abyss.

At the time Abyss gear was the best gear in the game. It got so bad that guilds stopped doing runs there since most weren't set up for competing against players with 200% more damage output. When I would go in it was an empty zone with maybe 4 players running around killing noobs. One player in full Abyss gear could essentially tank 3-4 players without. Bad balance issues. That was when the game started to empty out like someones ass the day after eatng Taco Bell.

The main map outside the Abyss started to become challenging where you needed Abyss gear to compete, that and portals would appear that allowed opposing faction to enter into each others areas, so again Abyss gear was the only gear with pvp stats, if you didn't have it you were a goner.

They thought they could bring folks back by adding fashion, houses ect, but by then it was too late.
