Why eq2 graphics so high?

been playing eq2 for a couple weeks and I find the graphics for the most part awful. Very bland, generic looking. The character creation is nice but the armor detail looks the same from level 1 to level 50 (from what I seen), the shade effects in the water and the sky in some areas look nice but all the same everywhere you go.

The mobs all look alike includding the names that I encountered thus far. For a new game with such BIG expectations I find that eq2 is greatly lacking in graphics but on mmorpg it's listed over  9.0 on graphics, is there something I am missing?

Yeah, your confused. Graphics is one thing. Your more dissapointed in the artwork. Kinda like what makes people think wow has good graphics. EQ2 has the most powerfull engine out so far. It is basically a next gen game released really early. I do agree though, that the artwork could have used some tweaking. It is fine the way it is though in the sense of realism. Real armor looks bland most of the time too lol.

On the mobs part, I can't disagree with you there, but they shouldn't try too hard to make up crazy monster like an assgolbin elite treehuger or something. The new expansion that deals in the desert looks really awsome and I am looking forward to trying that some time.

you're right the artwork lacks not the graphic engine but you think they would take advantage of a powerful graphic engine with more creativity =/

I played WoW for a year and I guess I am comparing it to WoW when it comes to graphics. Where WoW may lack on the technical side they sure make up for it in creativity. Before WoW I played the first EQ for years and really do like the storyline better so i'm hoping eq2 becomes a little more detailed in the artwork.

See you understand now. I think WoWs art is one of the best out there. The engine is probably worse than classic Dark Age of Camelot, but they make up for it in art in every way. I too wish and hope that EQ2 will start tweaking their armor and anything else they can to create a more mystical feel of enchantment :P.

I bought WoW when it came out and played it on and off since. Now that we have our line drawn, we need to get more people to understand that ART and GRAPHICS are two different things but share a critical connection :) (I sound like my english teacher now). I think EQ2s new expansion is going to have a little bit better art that before. One can hope right?

    New expansion looks kool

If you scroll along and see the mobs they look quite kool, plus they are making the zoning like EQ which is good :)

The original game looks bland and boring but all that will be a thing of the past in a few expansions time!

I quit the game because it lacks and boring.

I agree.. the engine may be uber but I don't give a crap about the engine if that's all that comes out of it. The textures look plastic and the whole world looks uninspired. :(

I like the EQ2 graphics, they are realistic. I was turned off by WoW's homoerotic candyland look. I guess it's just personal preference. I guess that's why different games use different graphics.

Get a stompin system and you will change your tune about EQ2's graphics. They are absolutely the sweetest thing since gaming arrived. I didn't like them so much before I beefed up my rig, but now dear lord, it's just like Hamma' said...

I think eq2 had nice water graphics. But I also think the graphics were too real, the mobs didn't fit in the environments as they were at such a contrast to the environments.
