SWTOR moving to Broadsword?

JudgeUKJudgeUK Member RarePosts: 1,698
Belatedly read an article in MassivelyOP, reportedly saying SWTOR is moving from BioWare to Broadsword, with some staff transfers and unfortunately some redundancies. Anyone know the validity of this report?

When reading the linked articles the words "may", "in discussion", "letter of intent" imply it's not a totally done deal yet.

Might need approval from the IP holder first.

Yes, my bad. But I wouldn't be surprised that EA's trying to do this not only to free up Bioware, but also to clear the way for any future Star Wars RPG plans.

    Err ..

Isnt "Bioware" just the name EA plasters on every single one of their developer studios so they can profit from the good name of the company ?

The founders of Bioware have long left. The spirit of Bioware is long dead.

Either way its kind of funny SWTOR is still going.

Possibly a contractual obligation in order to retain rights to create more games using the SW, franchise.

I mean you lose a lot of staff that was previously working with the project and knew its in and outs, and get a mostly new staff that first has to learn the project.

On the plus side it means the project is probably not dead and will probably continue for quite a while, otherwise this step would have been a waste.

And that EA wants to use the employees previously working on the game for some other project.

Isn't Ultima Online over at BroadSword.
Seems to be a place where games go to die.

So what does this mean for the game itself? Is it for the good or bad?
Hard to say. But it says a lot about "Bioware" or whatever that team is supposed to be now, left to just handle old franchises they have one taken of them. Supposedly they have two new franchise titles in the works, but its EA so that could mean anything.

Neither. Depends on how much you like / need the concept of change.

I love how an MMORPG discussion is in the non-mmorpg forum, and the mmorpg forum is filled with non-mmorpg discussions (like CSGO). Just makes me laugh a little

I have missed threads before because they were not in Pub and must admit I have taken liberties with some of my own threads by putting them in Pub.

I put everything in the pub. I'm lazy like that.

I wouldn't know if something is in the right or wrong sub-forum because I can see the last 3 days of posts on the "most recent threads" page.

UO has been running quite successfully under Broadsword for years now. EA owns both studios. I don't see what the big deal is.

The lack of future. And fake worry for people who you do not even know. Me? A random dev could get shot for all I care(better not, but feign care I will not). It's like a tree in the forest. Has it fallen? (At least I'm honest)

But even the lack of future isn't bad given how much things you CAN already do in SWTOR. You could probably play it for at least 2 years before moving on. And if that isn't a value proposition, I don't know what is.

Besides, stability is GOOD. And the lack of changes brings stability ... you understand.

Err ... Bioware only exists in name now, and has been for a very long time.

The Bioware founders are long gone from EA. EA has exploited the good name that Bioware has made for itself. Thats also fading of course, thanks to genius titles like "Mass Effect Andromeda".
