The title says it all....I just read a topic where the author basically said there was gonna be server consolidation a while before the release of the expansion...I'd like to know what that means...he said it was a good thing but I have no clue what it is.

I am guessing he meant to merge servers together to get bigger communities, which I don't want. Last thing I want is not having enough mobs or recources to gather because everyone's in the same server.
Antonia Bayle was so over-crowded it was just not fun, so I moved out there fast.
hi there!
server consolidation is when they take exsisting servers and merge them together, bringing all the players from one server together from another
say there are 10 servers with 500 ppl each. if they got rid of half of the servers and moved the ppl on these servers to the remaining 5 it would make 5 servers with 1000 ppl on each.
hope that helped.

My current experience with the oasis server is very unpopulated areas. Of course i see other people, but nothing like WOW (which is understandable being WOW's massive success) or even ASC2 which is closing down. I personally dont have a problem with server merges as long as it is balanced in a controlled and logical fashion.
You wont see a server merge for months
1. There is an expansion coming
2. SOE can charge players for a /movelog to a more populated server
The best way to get a feel of the population on your server is to do the /who all <level> <level> and note it in a spreadsheet or something. Just remember that 500 online at once aint the same as 500 online total.
oh! now I see....well I have noticed how few people there are on the Bazaar server (server I play mostly on)
course I probably am not looking hard enough since my guild has lots of people...thing is...this server merge sounds like it would be worth while seeing as if you've got 10 servers with few plays to be had on each then it tends to become pointless or redundant so merging them together makes it less redundant.
Not sure if you know this but the Bazaar server is a Station Exchange server, in other words its a sponsored by SoE "e-bay-like" server. So you can buy and sell items, characters, and its all legal and brokered by SoE.
That is probably the reason for low Pop on that server because not alot of people are fond of Station Exchange. If you want a server with lots of people try the RPG perfered servers they are PACKED.
I'm an european playing at Crushbone and I never have problems finding groups (even in low level characters, including the Isle of Refuge). Only have problems when playing during the morning (so american time is ~02:00).
Yeah, you can transfer to a different server, but you have to pay a certain amount of $$ to do so I think (someone might want to back that up possibly). Anyhow, if you haven't been playing all that long, it might be better just to start over with another character on the actual server you prefer.
Have fun--EQ2 is a good game.
Populations are too low on many servers. Just create a new character at peak time and look at the server pops, you'll see they're all low except Antonia Bayle. There's no way SOE will tolerate this for much longer so they'll probably merge servers unless the expansion brings in loads of new blood, which I doubt.
Sadly this game seems to be copying what happened to AC2!
I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that there are restrictions on transferring characters FROM a Station Exchange server to the other servers. The normal and RP server population would probably not take too kindly to having "store bought" toons and gear flooding into their version of Norrath
Have a great day!

How so?EQ 2 has atleast 150k subscribers. And i don't believe AC2 broke 100k,and if they did, didnt keep them for long.Comparing EQ2 and AC2 is like comparing horizons to world of warcraft.
