I'm sorry what fantasy land do you live in that SQ 42 will be out in September?

Of course the whole MMO versus Single player argument will come up. But really SQ 42 is SINGLE PLAYER. Where is that? Its basically a proof of concept at this point. It cant be released because they dont have anything, and even if they have something it obviously is so poorly implemented it will prove that anything and everything they have claimed about SC (beyond rudimentary stuff) isnt possible even more than a decade later.

And hence the reason why so many backers hardly care about SQ42, as what the majority is here for, and what racks in the big bucks for the project, is the MMO.

It was a very subtle joke, poking fun at Star Citizens, poster well knows SQ42 isn't coming out any time in this lifetime.

Passive Aggressive humor can be often overlooked, but is one of the higher forms of trolling.

I miss that as well as many on this forum keep posting that the game is 100% playable now. I thought maybe there was a new buggy planet had dropped the supporters needed to buy.

It is amazing how dropping a comma can make you read that post differently. :)

Exactly! Punctuation matters. A colon in a sentence, for example, can dramatically change the meaning of the message.

"Bill ate his friends sandwich." or "Bill ate his friends colon."

Ah another "New 'game with sci-fi' coming out that will Destroy Star Citizen" thread, been a while lol

Last one was what?  Cyberpunk?  Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

That went just as expected :D

    Haters Gonna Hate yadayadayada.

SQ42 is being developed and looking good.

It will be release when it's ready like all games should ;)

PS - If waiting for a video-game to develop is hard it probably means your IRL has not much going on so maybe work on that while you wait B)

It appears that SQ42 and Star Citizen are going the same route as Freelancer. In 1997 Chris Roberts said it would take 2 1/2 years to develop. In 1999 Roberts announced the game would release in 2000. In 2000 Roberts said it would release in 2001. Roberts left the project after admitting his estimates were way off and he needed a lot more money.

The new management scaled the goals way back and eventually released the game in 2003. That was my favorite space game until No Man's Sky.

The same thing probably needs to happen to SQ42 and Star Citizen. Roberts should step aside and let some competent project managers take over. They should scale the goals way back and perhaps we'd see a game in a few more years.

Most people have no problem waiting. It's the bait and switch release date, that ended up being a complete lie, off by almost a decade now, that people have a problem with.

Developing a video game is apparently so hard Chris Roberts has no idea how long it will take. At all.

Ahah realy? That's why in this day and age we still get posts crying about idiotic points about game dev taking time and kickstarters changing plans ad nauseam lol

All games, Starfield (which, curiosly was named and trademarked around the time of Star Citizen crowdfunding exploded)included, go through that process. Starfield itself has taken just as long if not more to make despite being from an established studio and way less ambitious project, scope, fidelity and tech wise than Star Citizen & Squadron 42.

In the end, like any creative product, for the consumer it doesn't realy matter how long it takes but how good it is.

Yep.  And the Microsoft Freelancer chief developer  (You know, the one that actually delivered the game) opined that Roberts used money and time allocated to Freelancer for his execrable Wing Commander movie.  Which is what I heard from the grapevine of ex-Origin employees.  That makes me not want to give Roberts any money, for anything.  How many shell companies are associated with CIG?

Roberts has done this unfocused ambition on every single project he's ever worked on.  He doesn't learn from his mistakes, and he's got no one to rescue him from them this time.  Well, except maybe the CIG marketing department.  But even they are running a Red Queen's Race.

Roberts doesn't consider any of this a "mistake". Neither do his sycophants. Just look at how much money he's raised! It's all a big success! Just like with Freelancer, where he is mostly credited for its success, when in reality he failed and had to be replaced.

With this new funding mechanism though, where the money comes directly from individuals instead of professional investors, he can't fail. He can't be held accountable, like it would be with a regular real-world project.

Roberts is "as visionary as an opium eater" as one Civil War General described a quick talking officer. Full of spectacular visions of global conquest, but lousy at actually directing troops.

Roberts should be promoted, kicked upstairs, with some kind of "Emeritus" title, and let competent project managers salvage what is there before it is too late.

And why would he or any other studio/dev making their dream game? Those focused on making their games and the people who support them is all that matters.  B)

Like stated, Not all have the ability to see the forest for the trees.

So those who don't support or like such endeavours are irrelevant to the equation by default.

Crying about it is just a desperate way for those who like to pretend to have input in a subject way above their knowledge so they resort to repeat variations of the same nonsensic tropes about game dev or crowdfunding lol

Are there any plans for a Starfield Online Game, SOG? Kind of like ESO?

The star game MMO we've all been waiting for.

Single player with full mods is fun too. Especially if we can let others play our mods.

So, all of this isn’t ‘way above your knowledge?’ You do know what is going on, and how and why? You do have special insights and information the rest of the people here don’t?
