    Now, now, let's not exaggerate.

"The last PVP content was added to the game in February of 2019 with update 21, in the form of one single BG map."

    Much better, right?

Who cares(and why exactly) about PvP in MMOs when you have whole genres built around just that(fps, moba, fighting etc)?

ESO's Style of PvP - not the silly BGs but the actual PvP in Cyrodiil - was a spiritual successor to DAoC and many people, myself included, enjoy that type of objective control based PvP with large engagements.

Way back years ago when it was active I virtually did nothing but play in Cyrodiil for weeks on end and I consider myself mostly a PvEr in all other MMOs.

The unresolved performance problems that got worse and worse as they added more things to the game, pretty well killed it though.

Also, ironically, I found the ESO PvP population was a lot friendlier and more welcoming than the PUG dungeon-running or trial crowds that tended to be toxic quite often.

I haven't played the game for quite a while but I personally had the most fun in Cyrodiil in its glory days.

Who cares? Are you actually serious or just trolling because if you go and watch the launch trailer which was put out by IGN 9 years ago you will see a WAR raging in cyrodiil with three factions fighting each other using massive siege weapons against each other to claim the elder scrolls. Their whole launch advert campaign was based around pvp siege warfare.

If that isnt good enough then look at the gamespot extended launch trailer which shows off even more siege warfare with what looks like an Emperor on the battlefield managing to turn the tide of battle and break down the walls for the advancing army to siege it.

Who cares? Only the initial fanbase that was lured into thinking this was going to be the greatest PvP mmorpg of all time. The sad part is, it should have been but they insist on selling dad content for all the consumer addicted players who pretend that lore is more important than gameplay.

PvP players keep games alive while there is content droughts and its very sad that zenimax have not produced enough pvp content which is exactly why the game has been dead and in maintenance mode for literally years. You will notice the maintenance mode every time there is a holiday event and the servers go all wonky.

Cyrodiil was the only time I ever found myself as a "ganker."

I had to go out on it to collect skyshards and on some occasions I found myself in dungeons and would come across an enemy player.

Now, I suppose I could have been sporting about it, perhaps waving or letting my opponent gather themselves together.

Thing is, it was a good long run or ride to some of the ones deep in enemy territory which I didn't relish the idea of traveling back to were I to lose.

I have been taught well, so in true gankers fashion I would hide out of sight until they had pulled a mini boss or something and then attack them like gangbusters while their backs were turned easily crush them.

I actually was 5-0 using this technique but I took no real pride in my "accomplishment." Nor did I make it a habit, once the skyshard or quest objectives were completed I moved on.

Felt the same about shooting hapless miners when going on obligatory corporate roams.

I almost always didn't register on the Killboards and if someone noticed I'd just blame it on lag to cover the fact I never activated my guns against miners.

Unless, they were Russians or allied with PL, those were always kill with extreme prejudice...no quarter.

    ;)

Kind of like saying looters should fill the pve itch. Many pvp focused mmorpgs dont fail because they have pvp, they tend to fail because pvp is always on in most of them. Unless combat is just clunky (like ff14 to the point where they ended up either merging buttons or flat out removing abilities in pvp), then 'controlled pvp' (instanced pvp) tend to do well.

But in those games, the pvp is the sole focus. In an mmorpg, at least theoretically, you have a world where players can compete for resource and land.

We all like what we like and I'm good with that, but there is a divide between those who like power progression in their pvp and those of us who believe it has no place at all. Don't think the two groups will ever see eye to eye.

I genuinely hope they don't add romance to the companion system, and that they stay away from it.

It's damn creepy and I do not understand a lot of gamers' obsession with having it in every single RPG or even MMOs.

There are 2 kinds of PvP'ers: those who like to hurt others, and those who like to compete. Those who like to hurt others, Eve Online is that way; good riddance. Now those who like to compete, deserve a well thought out and fair PvP system. HelL I'd participate in it, if it actually existed. But PvP is usually too chaotic, and full of cheaters; which is why I hardly ever participate in it.

That is bad, there needs to be a balance between PvP and PvE development, for sure ESO leans more to PvE but four years ago is too long. Also Cyrodiil was the proper PvP, that was what they should have expanded on.

A lot of people play MMOs for PvP. Stupid post shitting on gameplay preference.

Yep. What a waste, they neglected the hell out of this game mode and it's just shit now. ZOS is my least favorite company after ruining this game. Glad I finally broke myself of it, they won't get another dime from me.

I will say that way back at launch Cyrodiil was a major draw for me because it's pretty much a direct descendant of DAoC which was my favorite PvP MMO of all time. However anything more than a small skirmish turns into a slide show and then come the disconnects. If you get disconnected rejoining the main army can be a challenge because of all the gank patrols who are looking to stop exactly that (reinforcements). You do this a few times and then get frustrated and go back to doing something productive in PvE. It's a shame they can't solve the technical issues because otherwise I'd probably pretty much live out in Cyrodiil.

Practically every post commenting on the "who cares about pvp" statement. Apparently a lot of people care because from the look of it that's how they where drawn into the game.

Massive L from Zenimax to drop the ball with pvp content.

I think that is going too far, the game was obviously PvE heavy, to me Cyrodiil was like a supped up version of Lotro's Monster zone. But I have nearly never played a MMO without PvP  and regard its absence as a huge loss to a game. But yes, staving the game of PvP content as the years go by is dropping the ball.

I actually think the companion system is pretty cool, kind of like what SWTOR did.

It's like having 2 characters in 1, and makes every character a pet class of sorts.

I would like to see them go full on pawns like companions like Dragon's Dogma, where you can make a companion from scratch.

Agreed. One of my favorite things about SWTOR and DD:DA. It adds another dimension to the experience for me. Hiring others' pawns in DD:DA is awesome.
