Best Release of the Past Couple Years

The bar isnt' real high, but I'd have to say from the past 2 years, Embers Adrift is probably the best MMO we currently have on market to play.

Lost Ark was released in the west in 2022. So there is that. And Broken Ranks, and Zenith, I reckon all those are better then Ambers Adrift. Mortal Online 2 even. So the bar is low, but not THAT low.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Is MO2 playable now? Last I heard it was in a pretty rough state.

Ohhh, it is a mess as far as I know. But so is Embers Adrift  ;)

Really? The gameplay videos I have seen from that looked pretty bad.

I tried Lost Ark a few months back and I thought it was just the usual formulaic dross from the usual regions that seem to love that stuff.

Embers is possibly the worst release of all those mentioned, just basing this on the number of posts about the problems it has.

Uncharted Waters Origin released in March of this year, so it's well within your two-year window.  It isn't your conventional MMORPG, with the multiplayer side of things mostly about trading and investment rather than combat, and combat itself mostly a matter of flipping on auto-combat for a while every now and then.  But it does what it set out to do quite well, so I'd say that it's the best new MMORPG to launch in the last two years.

The only bar that is low IMO is the definition of an MMORPG...

Possibly, but I can't say as I have no personal experience with the other games mentioned. I have at least played Embers Adrift and don't find it as bad as many make it out to be.

It is though very niche, but apparently not so much that the game is unsustainable. So long as that is so it expands the MMORPG experiences available which is beneficial in itself, even if that benefit is confined to a very few.

How is the population of the game look right now.  Is it sustainable?

I have no idea what the population is. The game continues to operate so is presumably sustainable. Whether that's just barely or comfortably so I couldn't say.

What is a sustainable population? If the game is decent enough and one of my guilds was all for playing it would the population matter? Only for a PvP MMO, in a PvE MMO I think we could put up with less capes running around. I am saying this because I started to think about how we have managed the changes in MMO gameplay over the years, this would be just another problem the modern era has thrown at us. But as yet no appetite for playing these MMOs exists, hopefully that may change as they get spruced up.

Embers adrift is pretty much forced grouping isnt it? If so, then population matters if you need other people to play with.

Oh, slappy you made me think of the good old days. 500 vs 500 and 4 crazy people run down the middle of both armies and start a war. May tomorrow bring peace not war. /Cheers!

Rift, has been, and currently is my go to mmo.  There are really, no players left for the most part.  But gameplay, (even with group required end zones) is, hands down above and beyond the rest of the dreck.
Gimme some klingon here....  Aside from games fading into the ether, I recently retried New World.  Same issues (crafting) but still a ton o' fun.  Aside from that I subscribe to wow 1 month a year and never play, Eso once every 3ish months still solid..... ....  FFXIV is always fun if you like grouping.....  If I could get 200 of you into City of Heroes, it'd be the game, but otherwise... needs players.  Aside from that, in my opinion, aint really anything else.

Rift was a pretty awesome game when it first came out. I still love any game with a great crafting system. No one has ever really beat EQ2 crafting IMO.

Everquest 2 really was wonderful. I also loved the housing. The crafting when they still had all those sub combines I mnaged to get like 9 crafters to max at that time which was really a feat if you remember the original crafting system. Since I love housing and you could not send items across Freeport and Qeynos I actually made identical crafters on both sides. It's no wonder why I burnt out on the game before Kingdom of the Sky the second expansion.

Just got so tired of levelling all those crafters. I made a hideous amount of money on my crafters though since I can do all the combines myself and sell the melee skills and spells and carpentry items. I hate waiting for others or buying from others and this was what finally did me in in Vanguard when I played it. There the mini game during crafting gave me very bad carpel tunnel and I was forced to give up the game or give up crafting so I chose to give up the game.

What is sustainable is that population of paying customers that allows a game to remain in operation. Without that there wouldn't be an Embers Adrift for one of your guilds to potentially have interest in. To that extent, it matters.

Whether it matters beyond that depends on how many of your guild members decide the play. If enough to tackle any of the content in the game play do the overall population won't affect your guild. If not it may at times be an issue.

Some appetite for playing these MMORPGs does exist or they would not be commercially viable.
