Hi all
Had to relay this peice of news:-
CBS) It might be an obvious saying, but this is the perfect example of "monkey see, monkey do." When a chimpanzee started behaving in a uniquely human way, zookeepers knew they had a problem on their hands.
Charley, the playing chimp tapped laptop keys after he picked up a laptop given to him by the allegedly smarter humans zookeepers who feed him at a South African zoo.
The computer was operating a widely popular game called "World of Warcraft".
"Charley's picked up the habit from watching some of the "addicted" zookeepers. He learns from mimicry," Daryl Barnes of the Bloemfontein Zoo told CBS News Correspondent Richard Schlesinger.
"Do you think it's a good thing that people give the monkey a computer game?" Schlesinger asked one young teenager.
"No," he replied.
"What will happen?
"They will get addicted."
Everybody gets a laugh watching Charley play , like a hairy scary star of an old tough guy film. But the people who created the game "Blizzard" and those that care about him are not amused. "It gives the message that even a monkey can play this game" as quoted from a Blizzard Games Rep.
But Charley is addicted to World of Warcraft.
And, according to the zoo, "he acts like a naughty schoolboy" and hides his laptop when his handlers happen by. So now the zoo has to help a monkey go cold turkey resist the temptations of humans and get him to understand that "monkey see, monkey do" isn't as good a philosophy as "do what I say, not what I do."

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Hate to say it, but bashing WoW was to be expected the day it was released. Think:
World of Warcraft sucked a good amount of the population from every single MMORPG on the market (except Runescape. I dunno about Runescape). No MMORPG ('cept Runescape) was spared the WoW syndrome, where you sign on and a huge amount of the population was taken. Gamers started freaking out, complaining, whining, spamming message boards, etc. When I used to play UO, I was very angry when WoW came out because Britain bank had about 20 people at it and I play the most populated server. I was ignorant towards WoW until I played it. People like to find things to poke fun at WoW for because they can't accept the fact that WoW dominated the industry, broke sales records for computer games and was rated high in every magazine.
First, they think it's fun to say "WoW is for monkeys!!!111oneoneon" because WoW is so simple. This is the dumbest argument: why does a game have to be complicated to be fun? Shooters arent complicated and those are fun. Zelda isnt complicated and that game is fun. Why does it matter if you play a game that is simple and has an easy interface? Will your friends at school walk up to you and say "You play a game with a simple interface? You must be too stupid for one with a complicated interface LOSER"?. I didnt think so. A simple interface doesnt make it a bad game.
You dont need to be 'hardcore' to play WoW. They made a grind, it's tough to play, but you dont need to dedicate your life to it. You can sign on at any given moment and level and you dont need to skip work or put a bucket in your gaming room to pee so that you can make time for WoW.
Graphics. This is a stupid argument because WoW's graphics are great. People seem to have forgotten the difference between bad graphics and non-realistic graphics. World of Warcraft was keeping the Warcraftish feel by making it cartoony. However, the faces arent painted on your characters, they detail every single block to make your eyes bulge, your mouth has depth, your armor is incredibly detailed. They arent realistic, get that much straight. Want to see a game with truly bad graphics? Play Manhunt, that games is more realistic than WoW is in looks, but the characters's faces are painted on to a doll-like head.
Just because WoW got high ratings in every game magazine, became the fastest selling PC game in history, drained your MMORPG's population and then beat it's competetor Everquest 2 by 5x it's population in just a week of it's release doesnt make WoW a bad game.
