Eternal Tombs - Test Play

So...

I just finished a testing session with Eternal Tombs (cleared to talk about it) and although the game still has some polish and I did CTD twice when I kept alt-tabbing out of the game to adjust my Discord, it's run's very well and looks nice.

The test session was about 20 of us vs. a dragon, and the test was short (20 mins) and just wanted to see how the combat vs. a raid mob went. (https://www.youtube.com/@LevelUpMMO will have a video up soon) Again, the game has some polish to do but it was running well on the test server.

Regardless of any minor issues, the game play and combat vs. the dragon was some of the most fun and engaging game play I've experienced in an MMO.  I was already pretty hyped about this game, but now I'm very excited for it and the only bad thing is, is that it isn't out now.  The dev did say they should easily beat Pantheon to market and also said they expect to beat AoC to market by possibly a couple years.  He is hopeful to have to game out by the end of 2024.

I started off playing a necromantic healer of sorts, can't remember the name, Bonesticher or something like that.  And the abilities were unique to say the least.  The effects were pretty cool, but I wasn't sure how the healing worked.  It didn't appear I targeted anyone, but rather cast my abilities 'near' me and for people to heal  up, they'd have to run into the pool of blood that was now on the ground near me.  Gross, but also, very cool. Also had a couple damage abilities that exploded with such ferocity, that it kinda startled me.

Then I switched up to the Ranger, and this was super fun.  Easy to kite with, but also a fun mechanic of how to maximize your damage or just put quick arrows into the mob.  You actually have to notice your Rangers animation.  He'd draw his bow, and if you were trying to fire and ability, you'd have to wait until his draw arm was all the way back and then fire.  Default attack you could release quicker, but do less damage on the attack than if you waited for the complete draw back.  Again, the abilities where pretty cool looking and I really liked them.  Flaming arrows that would explode on impact, and you could 'feel' the explosion.  It felt really good.  I pulled aggro a time or two and had to dodge roll my way out of attacks.

Finally, just before the test ended, I hopped on a Chloromancer (sp?) and with this guy, I assume he was a dps mage.  He had the ability to cast a few different explosions and again, when using these it 'felt' like I was doing something.  The sound effects, visuals and connection to the game were all just there.

For a frame of reference, which game would you say has the most similar combat to Eternal Tombs? Thanks for sharing this.

IDK, I don't play enough games.  It was a very new and different experience for me.  But it was easy to understand and use.  So you have your default attack, and you click to attack.  LMB.  Then you have an ability attack, which are on your hotbar with reuse timers.  And to use an ability it is a RMB attack.  They are hotbar assigned 1-8 (but I only had 4, so to use an ability, I'd press 1,2,3 or 4) RMB attacks don't stop you from consecutively doing a LMB attack, they aren't timer linked.  But you obviously can't do both at once.  I had 4 abilities on each character I played and I could use all of them before the reuse time was up on the first, so in the mean time, I'd just default (LMB) attack.  Think of it, as on my left hand a held a sword for a normal attack and in the right I had a hammer to cast my abilities.  (I think the hammer was just a placeholder, at one time I  was holding a heart in my hand.  That was cool, the dev said it was a bug, but the heart looked like it was meant to be held)

We didnt' get a chance to play any of the game.  Just a combat encounter vs. a dragon.  And the combat was, like I said, the most fun I've had in a game in a while.
