Kyleran, do you think that Intrepid is trying to develop a "WoW killer"?

No, they know better than that I'm sure.

Though when you think about it, that bar is probably lower than it's ever been, so maybe.

Ya WoW and Ashes are not even close to the same game. That would be like Burger King yelling they about to take down Red Lobster. All the seafood fans go "BK sells seafood?" Nope.

I know some folks who don't think Red Lobster sell seafood either, at least not "true seafood.". (as they define it)

    Sound familiar?

WOW is the "fried seafood" of MMORPG gaming, popular with many but still  is considered pretty much junk food to those with a more discerning palette.

Seem that no one here works in the industry. Most MMORPG’s spend 5-7 years in development and that’s full time development. Intrepid has not done anything so far that it would make me think that they are not working a game. So I’m not sure why people think this way. They’ve actually shown their game every month so you can see at least some of the work they have done.

Look at the first alpha which people played, part of the way in they updated the combat mechanics to a split body system because the early alpha’s fighting mechanics didn’t feel right or work well. Second alpha’s are normal ran just before you’re thinking of going into beta. I look for 3 alpha fazes , one was done and you’ll probably get two this year. One early then later after fixing the last alpha bugs and issues.

Then the next year look to see more of the sailing mechanics and such. Then probably beta, because the world is laid out and events finalized and they will be ready for the classes/hybrid flavor testing . Once you hit this phase you know. It’ll be a solid year of development, tweaking and bug squashing.

Now I personally wish for a more meaningful Class system. They say 64 builds or whatever but I simply take that to mean 8 classes with different cosmetic functioning. 8 classes aren’t much but only DAoC has ever truly had more than 6-20 individual classes so it’s possible if you have different roles that all fill different roles but that’s only because it had 3 realms with very unique characters.

Until we move beyond Tank/Healer/DPS no game will have as many classes as games like EQ and DAoC. They have classes that CC, turn dmg, enhance groups and players, debuff and CC mobs etc. so I am disappointed that while they are taking the world to new places and interactions but the classes are left out on innovation.

Nothing you'd recognize as such. That place is a travesty. We got a gift card to Red Lobster and my impression is that Denny's probably does better seafood. Taco Bell probably makes better fish and chips lol.
