Project Gorgon is going to part time development

The Devs posted a news update yesterday, long story short due several game and real life issues they've run out of money.

They aren't planning to shut down any time soon, or even stop delivering any new content but still they basically are saying it's going more or less into bug fix / maintenance mode while they regroup.

So they released their full time staff, cut the hours of the part time and are quite candid about declining health of one of the two primary owners.

It's a good read which starts with a recap of the game's struggles throughout its history but in particular the past 3 years.

I never tried PG, it's designs are not really appealing, especially more punitive things like curse mechanics.

Also, I generally avoid games which are perpetually in early access (unless they have zombies)  :) preferring to wait for the released versions, but doubtful that day will likely happen here.

    Another zombie-less game goes down.
When will people learn the importance of zombies?

I thought the curse mechanic was great. I thought how they implemented it, turning into a cow, was not great. Granted I only tried the game for brief bits so perhaps there were curses that were more grounded in "serious" or whatever word fits. Shame that they can't continue full steam and that one of their members is ill. I imagine this was less of a game and more of a community sharing the experiencing of making the game. Best wishes to them.

There is a fair bit of game actually as it has been a labour of love for quite some time. Unfortunately the driving force for it is small and circumstance as of late has not favoured them, to say the least.

Curses are varied, but it is a world where magic exists. Animal transformations are grounded in that context. They can be undone by magic potions for that purpose.

The curses were great, I thought.  I particularly liked being a Necromantic Spider, because of so many pets and liked the Bat too.  Very creative.

There were zombies...  you could even summon them as your servants.

There are zombies in the game. You can kill them or raise them too if you want. And you can even provoke them so they do more damage.

I knew about the health issue for some time. It is truly sad. I do hope someone steps in and helps.

In a game where there are humans the possibility of there being zombies ever lurks on the horizon. :)

Probably should have named the game Project Zomboid maybe?

Oh wait, that name is already taken.

That's really the thing, as you say, the driving force was small. Two people. So any endeavor with a small group of people is going to eventually stall and then come to an end unless someone else takes up the work.

My thought is that they created something really nice and created a community, and for a brief moment in time had a small yet shining beacon for like minded people.

To me it's the kind of project Kickstarter was made for.  Not people who need 10, 20, 30 million dollar budgets.

I joined when it was early and had a lot of fun.  It was a bit too quirky for my taste with all the animal stuff and the Psychology skill like "Tell me about Your Mother crits for 50 pts"

But it was a good project.

That was my take as well, too quirky. I get having some odd elements but most of the game was a bunch of random thoughts. None the less, I hope they pull it together for their fans.

Curses in this game were an interesting idea gone horribly wrong.  What they ended up doing was preventing people from trying new stuff, and preventing people from exploring or doing difficult content for fear of being cursed.

It became a requirement to look everything up online first before you did anything.  In addition to always doing EZ mode content.

We see how it turned out.

I feel bad for the health issues, but this dev team could have been rich if they had changed just a few of these dumb mechanics in the game.
