I dont see how you can see the progress being made and the sincerity of the team and not at the very least realize its not a scam. The game could very well be shit but not for a lack of trying. Look at alpha 1 and then look at what they have for alpha 2. They have been ramping up for the past few years.

Yes it is self funded and crowd funded. Not sure why this is an issue anyways. Everyone knows Ashes was kickstarted. This isnt some secret. The point is the only other source of money was from Steven which means they dont have outside investors or large corporations like tencent forcing them to make bad decisions or put in pay to win.
The fact that people are still pretending Ashes is a scam at this point is wild. This isnt Pantheon revealing downgraded graphics. The improvement in the game is very obvious.
Ashes was self funded and then sought pledges. At this point Steven has taken in more money from gamers then the roughly 12 to 25 mill that's roumord to have used to start the company. So it was but is no longer self funded. Done.

The fact that an MMORPG user has to show his financials to prove a point, yet we're seemingly okay with the developers who take this money and then show nothing substantive for years and aren't met with the same scrutiny, is why so many can get away with it. It's also why while you may see us report on new Kickstarter MMOs because they are newsworthy, but we will never recommend you back them.

Read what people say about the company on glass door or on the livestreams about Steven. Look at how Steven always offers people jobs when laid off from other game studios. They are always talking about doing studio events together and seem to be treated very well. They do 24 hour charity streams every year for the childrens hospital.

Stephen has said a lot of things. Much of it has turned out to not be true. I could literally spend the weekend compling a list, but I dont think we actually need that do we? It's Christmas

I'm a bit curious, but not very excited. I want to see what it's like after all these years, but this isn't what I want out of gaming anymore, especially with gaas revenue streams anchored to them.
