NCSoft has given City of Heroes: Homecoming an official license to operate its CoH server. The team confirmed the news and are sharing a FAQ on what this means for access and continued development.

Very surprised NCsoft did this, not normally the way companies work but I think its a good PR move
City of Heroes isn't a big IP in itself, but Star Wars and Marvel sure are. I can't see the latter giving out a free license.
In hindsight people now think the game was good, at the time people really shredded it because of the graphics and pay to play. It got pretty empty if I remember. Knowing what we know now about the direction of the industry as a whole maybe it would do ok, I don't know.
Proud MMORPG.com member since March 2004! Make PvE GREAT Again!
When Homecoming first came out I played this for a bit and did some CS in the discord and forums for people having trouble getting the game to work.
Was back when they were using Tequila to launch the game. I would imagine they got a better launcher now!
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
This is pretty big. I don’t think this has ever happened before?
Huge congrats to that team. I know there will be drama regarding other servers but I see this as good news. For now, anyways. NCSoft could have shut them down at any point over the years.
Sadly no Marvel Heroes source code has made it to private server people's hands. Unless it's a tiny and super, duper secret one.
The MH emulator people have a VERY long road ahead of them.

At least SWG has working emus up and running though.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
You mean the two superhero MMORPGs that never shut down and still remain commercially viable despite one having to cover a DC licence fee?
Yeah, CoH sure showed them...
Anyway, this seems good news for Homecoming and I'm all for that.
What archetype did you play (and which primary and secondary powers) and now long did you give it?
Also, what made it feel more clunky to you than any other tab-target MMORPG?
CoH came out 2 months prior to WoW's release(Nov '04), and LotRO came out in 2007.
Yea the F2P gamers are usually the ones the industry point the finger at.
