It's not even the end of January and we already know of multiple MMOs that are getting the expansion treatment this calendar year. Which one has caught your eye the most?

I honestly can't even see what part of WoW's War Within is supposed to interest people. Like, what is the story even about? I get that it takes place deep underground, and ... ? The big underground zone we just got wasn't all that interesting, so I can't say I'm rarin' for more.

On the other hand, Dawntrail looks amazing. I quit FFXIV toward the end of Stormblood and skipped the next two expansions, but I have eagerly resubbed to catch up on the story so I can be ready for the new stuff. I was worried that it would be a slog, but I've actually been having a good time. I've wrapped up Stormblood and unlocked the new jobs, and without the specter of grinding dailies to drag me down, just playing the game is a lot of fun. Moving forward, I just need to remember not to participate in content I don't enjoy.

Obviously, I could not care less about free-to-play garbage, not even the IPs I used to enjoy before they went to the dark side. Good luck to them, but not really. That whole business model needs to die.

As a casual player I'm cautiously hopeful for what the Delves bring. I thought Torghast was a HUGE miss for Blizzard in that they could have easily used that to elevate the solo player to a first class citizen in the world with a clear way to advance playing challenging content without a group, but no they just turned it into a requisite grind to earn crafting mats for your end game gear. I'm hoping maybe just maybe Delves will be this, but I also know the Blizzard team is very much a "raid or die" team that caters to players who can invest large blocks of contiguous time in their game and everyone else can pound sand. Even the M+ stuff can take a couple of hours to get through one if your not being PL'ed through one by a couple of folks in full raid gear. I just can't commit to that kind of time.

Anyway, I can't fault their business model or design decisions because they've certainly been more successful than any other MMO in history, so who am I to complain? Just kinda sucks they look at folks like me and say, nah... you can go somewhere else for your entertainment.

To be clear I have no expectation that they would hand out top tier level raid gear for doing solo or 4-man delves. However, if you could get to say top tier minus 2 level gear with that path, so that should one decide to start participating in group content you're not so far behind everyone that every guild looks at you and says "nah... we're not spending the time to go gear you up" that would be nice.

That all being said I have been getting my entertainment elsewhere for quite some time now, and have no problem continuing to do so. Plenty of single player and small co-op style games out there.

None of the expansions announced in the article interest me (I read the article hoping to find out about some new expansions that might be exciting). I'm sure I'm in the minority when it comes to FFXIV but I can't get into that game at all. (tried again a week ago and wanted to try a gladiator character but gave up after hitting the 90 minute mark without having left the main city and experienced zero combat) WoW just isn't very interesting and the Blizzard news from the last couple of years just makes me want to stay away from their products in general. LOTRO isn't going to get that graphic overhaul they were shooting for -- I read the reasoning and completely understand it. It seems doubtful they would get that $30 million back. But without it, that game just feels way too dated. I played BDO for almost a week before concluding I just found it boring. ESO never caught on either -- it doesn't feel like a MMO and the graphics are also very dated.

Not an MMO but better than any MMO currently, Fang of Asterkarn for Grim Dawn.

I am looking forward to FFXIV Dawn Trail. Frankly, I do wish another MMORPG would spring up, being just as good quality as FFXXIV; but like usual, there is nothing. Some people have their varying opinions, but I have played all the major MMORPG's and nothing comes remotely as good quality. The only thing I can complain about is combat and the market. Those 2 things are never going to change AFAIK. I am always open minded to a new MMORPG, but when they come out, it's usually trash.

Being a WOW Fan Boy I am looking forward to "The War Within" and more Dwarf stories. I bought the expansion recently, which came with Dragon Flight, awesome! Even if I don't like The War Within I feel like I did well (Good deal!) by getting Dragon Flight.

I wish I could get into FF 14 though. It is so popular and everyone loves the story telling.... I just can't get into it. My brother just tried it and is loving it. I'm tempted to go back and play FF 14 with him. We'll see.......

The raids are what interests me the most, but i follow the storyline and do some M+ as well.

The Riot MMO is the only one I am excited to learn more about. They have the money.

WoW is too outdated to enjoy. LOTRO is WAY too outdated. I've tried 3 or 4 times to get into FFIV but I can't seem to get beyond level 30 or so. I got burned out on BDO and GW2 so that leaves ESO. I've pre-ordered the June expansion as I do every year. At least it's something. And I play SWTOR for a few weeks every time they release new content. Now I'm just waiting for the next big thing. I've bought all the new, shiny MMOs that came out and they all ended up sucking. And I'm gonna play Throne & Liberty, Blue Protocol, Dune, etc, until something great comes along to keep my interest.

Gold Road, as I'll actually be playing through it.

    Also, whatever CoH:Homecoming puts out.

Pretty much right there with you. People can't let go of those old titles. Although, I also look at it this way, I can pick up and play Galaga at any given moment. Not saying I can play it for 1000 hours though...

Hard to be excited for Dawntrail with how SE treat the game and the fact it has barely evolved over a decade.

Quit last year after playing since 2.0

Would love for yoship to step down and let some fresh eyes have power over an expansion or two

I agree, but also don't agree. Imagine if Yoshi P wasn't in charge of End Walker. It'd have been far worse than it was. It would have been released half baked. I think it is because they are relying on a 3rd party for some of the development. Off shoring is always bad, because you have very little control over the quality of parts made. Though somehow, Yoshi P did something to ensure the quality of Endwalker. Now if you are going to replace Yoshi P, then I hope it is someone with similar or higher standards.

I was not super excited about ESO Gold Road when it was announced. I guess I was hoping for something more and different but the more I thought about it, the nostalgia of Oblivion will kick in and I will ride that train for another expansion.

I recently returned to ESO (not played since the Skyrim expansion) and I am loving it. The learning curve is immense (three expansions, 9 DLC's I think) but I have enjoyed it a lot. It has everything I am looking for in a game. I actively avoid PVP as well so I cannot comment on that but I love the new Arcanist class (new to me), new areas to explore and new main story quests.
