Considering current Rift's population this whole exercise should be manageable by one intern spending an afternoon manually copying player data...

I'm surprised they need more than one server.

There are two MMOs I really miss sometimes, Rift and EQ2 (Lineage 1 too, but the pvp-mmo ship has long sailed for me). Sometimes I'm very tempted to download and play them again for a couple of months. Then I remind myself that I stopped playing for reasons and none of those have gone away. Besides, they aren't the same games they were and I would probably regret adding that to my memory of them.

I thought this game was shut down...maybe it was just bought by a different publisher. I remember this game back at launch being decent, but few were willing to pay a sub for anything but WoW.

It was taken over by Gamigo when Trion collapsed, along with all their other games. The only two still in operation are Rift and Trove.

Rift was an amazing game when it launched. I recall running from area to area clearing rifts until the  huge Rift boss would spawn. It was exciting.

And when you think about it although we have had some great MMOs since 2011, you could count them on one hand.

Its always a sad day when Rift is in the news reminding me of better times. Glad the games still going for some people out there to enjoy. Its still a decent game, although the player experience is quite diminished over the years.
