Disney Dreamlight Valley isn't bad, but it's very one-dimensional and outside of the IP attraction doesn't stand up to its life-sim farming peers. The monetization has become progressively heavier and there is a decent chunk of time-gating.

The mechanic I like the least in DDV is how the day night cycle is tied to the real life clock. For people who play on a consistent schedule this means the game time looks the same most of the time. In order for players to complete quests and activities this means they must occasionally play at all different hours of the night or day. Animal Crossing, a very popular title in the genre, does this as well so it isn't unprecedented, but I still hate it and tend to avoid games that do this.

I do think D&D makes a much better IP for the format, compared to Disney/Pixar themes. Also, they may do something different with this game compared to DDV based on the feedback they've received. I'll keep an eye on this, but my expectations are low and I'll probably only play it if it hits GamePass.

    No idea what this means.

Anyways, can't imagine this being good. Would love for D&D to fall back under the radar as a more niche, in person analog gaming experience. Gatekeeping is good sometimes.

DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It's what corporations call their initiative to promote fairness for underrepresented groups, including racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, etc.

More political shit in games: no thanks. Disney can now fall off the face of existence and not many would care because of their crap. When Disney comes tumbling down, other corporations should take notice.

Easy there captain outrage. The developers are Gameloft which is owned by Vivendi, not Disney. Gameloft partnered with Disney to make a village building life-sim based on Disney/Pixar IPs, because Disney IPs are super popular. Gameloft is partnering with Hasbro to make a D&D game. Unless Disney owns some part of Hasbro, the two have nothing to do with each other.

Not saying you won't find something to be offended about in the D&D game, just that the two companies and projects aren't connected in any contextually meaningful manner.

Wait and see.  For now, this is as mythical as the game.
