Hmm, Steam says I have 1783.5 hours playing 7D2D since I started back in June last year, and it's been in Alpha for the past 10 years.

Best $20 I ever spent but there is no way to further support them as they don't sell anything else but the base game.

But yeah, I don't spend much time gaming.

So, let me get this straight.  After 12 years and $600-$700 million from crowd funding, they STILL had to take on investors and are now running low on cash and need to raise even more money to launch this...game...even after receiving more money from said investors?  Am I understanding that right?

I think you underestimate the damage you do to how the game is viewed outside your bubble.  But carry on.
It's been working out great imo, I don't want angry, entitled jaded gamers polluting Star Citizen :D Specially since it's a shared online open universe B)

Pretty much right, outside of these forums in the real world and other discussion places people talk of the SC community being pretty tribal and toxic. I guess he's just gate keeping CR from getting new money I guess.

Some Star Citizen's don't understand how the real life software business development and sales works.

CR is definitely hoping his games appeal to a much broader audiance beyond the suckers, err, backers he'll pretty much have wrung out by launch.

Imagine the reviews if they launched on Steam.  It would be worse than Starfield and NMS at launch in it's current state for sure.

If they launched SC as early access I imagine honest reviewers would be fine with the games current state.

Unfortunately the bombers would overwhelm any real feedback so unlikely to ever happen.

Besides, I can't see CR /Sandi ever giving  Steam 30%, at least not at launch.

Good point on them disliking the Steam cut.  Though they have grown their own group of enthusiastic starry eyed follower.

Yeah, CR was complaining about Kickstarter's percentage, way back when, and set up his crowdfunding on his own site.  Which promptly collapsed, because he's a prescient genius.  And then he backpedaled to KS, claiming folks wanted it.  CYOA.

They do host the free flys now, which is a smart move.  Though I am not sure the hosting/management of them is up to snuff.

    You probably aren't.
    Or, you're definitely are.

Considering that, against all critics, sceptics and trolls projections, the game I backed and play has kept on growing both in players and funding like I've always stated it would, rinse & repeat :D

And of course, you'll happily go back and point out your posts postulating early release dates, right?

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I love how this the most common response to any criticism of Star Citizen.

Did your Lord and Savior Chris Roberts command you to constantly remind the heathens of how many backers and funding Star Citizen has?

With as many cultists as he has Chris Roberts should form The Church of Star Citizenry.

Sorry, I am already a follower of the Church of Atom.

    Onwards to a irradiant future.

    Have fun

Oof I remember those ones. Poor Elite ...

No game is going to kill off Star Citizen, that is about as relevant as the perennial WoW killers. But Elite Dangerous launched and we got a great game, two hurdles SC has yet to get over.

E:D was considered a good to great game (depending on who you ask) up to and including the Horizons launch and it did lots of things right (personally I loved its background simulation and I enjoyed my time in, so it gets my thumbs-up)...

... but the general sentiment is that after Horizons it stagnated and Odyssey was a bad launch (stability and performance, planets literally looking worse, overall game design of the expac) and it's been downhill since then. Features and platforms being dropped left and right, stock price of the company going down, layoffs etc.
Well that can happen down the line, launch success is no guarantee of long term success. But like I say lets see a proper launch for SC (not an EA) and reviews of 8.0 to 9.0, we do have a lot of fans counting their gaming chickens before they hatch. I am not one of those who think the game won't launch I am just unsure of what we will get.
