I am going to go back and try to play the first game and I shall get myself a small boost from a mod that helps me perhaps have an advantage. I know sacrilegious but quite honestly action games are totally beyond me. If I want to actually play this and make some progress I need some assistance. I still want to play them no matter how horrible I am at them.

I like the whole atmosphere and sometimes cool stories these games have. I will always thank Guerilla Games  for Horizon Zero Dawn a game that allowed me story mode. I just loved that game and the fact that I could play it and use my limited skill and still make progress. I really loved the story and gameplay.

I will never be good at games that require skill because I suck and I know this. I still want to play though. I remember someone on Steam chiding me about asking whether a game had an easy mode as I was responsible for cheapening games for others. It baffled me because it was a single player game and who exactly was I hurting. He said I was ruining it for those that accomplish stuff at hard and even harder difficulty. I don't get how me doing something in easy or story mode affects you. May be the ethos escapes me.

Still fuck them I will play how I want.
I would only use that argument in multiplayer games, you can't select a difficulty there and the vast majority of players always select the easiest way. I used to be a solo hardcore enthusiast, but now you typically only get the hardest settings after one or more playthroughs. I won't play solo games multiple times, so I just play the hardest you start with and that's the game done. These days relatively speaking that means I am playing most games at what would have been considered average in the 90's but who cares? Gamers do not have the priorities we once had, so studios are never going to say "OK, lets give them top difficulty first go".

I am glad when more gamers get into titles though, story mode does that and something like HZD has a great story.

Not sure why there’s an issue, if you find a mod that helps, use it.

Played oblivion for years, at one point I’d use a cheat code to give me just enough money to allow me to buy steel armor and weapons after I got out of the sewers because I wanted them at the start. It was my experience so far that is how I wanted to play.

as for dragons dogma, you could play a mage and support the pawns so they can do the close quarter stuff. You can heal and attack from a distance. Just a thought.

Eh I find people who clamor for ultra difficulty in games do so because their daily life is largely devoid of challenges. Therefore they seek to add challenges and accomplishments to their lives through gaming. The hardest part of their day is dealing with a difficult customer at their Olive Garden shift or whatever.

Things have gotten easier for me lately, but recently I was working 60 hours a week being a team lead on a multimillion dollar software project by day and running a Jiu Jitsu academy at night. At the end of one of those days I'm not looking at add even more difficulty to my day. I'm looking to relax for the one hour or less of free time I have before I have to go to bed and do it all over again as an example.

Play games your way and let all the people trying to lay their personal problems at your feet, especially people that don't even know you, piss off.

Thanks @Sovrath for the mage tip and I intend to take it. See even in Undecember the toon I got to max was a summoner or pet class. All ARPGs I manage while playing pet classes or some trap /turret gameplay like Phantasy Star Online 2 or Path of Exile and even Grim Dawn and when I play Last Epoch I shall do that too. Anything that is not reliant in me jumping about trying to connect with mobs is my go to class.

I can achieve some success and enjoyment and that is all I ask.

In spite of all my terribad skills in Enshrouded I've managed to get to level 10. The game is a lot of fun especially the crafting. I added a basement and found some more nicer brick designs and went nuts. I think the dragon boss is going to kick my ass. Worse comes to worse I will have to use some way to cheeze it >:) :*

I finally also managed to finish the Act 3 boss in Darkest Dungeon 2. It was a confluence of good trinkets and lucky crits , smoke bombs and shimmering powder and the most important fact that I used a mod to equip 4 trinkets  :p I am the absolute pits. Single player game so there ! Look down your nose at me but I am ecstatic that I did it and can now go to Act 4.

There are a lot of threads in forums comparing the first game and the second and while I agree with a lot of criticism there are a lot of good things about DD2 too. I feel that each game can be appreciated and played and enjoyed for what it is. While I share the sentiment the first does edge it out there are a lot of good things in DD2 too. I wasn't singing this tune last week though when the RNG was constantly wiping my group.

Another thing you could do is to try the Trickster class in Dragons Dogma 2.

It doesn’t seem to fight so much as “mess” with the enemy. Look it up.

I didn't go into details in my review, but from the sound of it you might really enjoy the Trickster vocation. It was not for me, so I admittedly only spent maybe an hour or two with it, but it's essentially a 100% support class.

Create a smokey simulacrum to draw aggro from mobs, spread smoke from your censer to buff your party members, apply debuffs, etc. Check out the Trickster Breakdown video to see it in action.

Edit: I read the comments in order and didn't see Sovrath's reply recommending the same. Cheers!

Flopping on steam. People are mad at the performance and the fact a game that cost $80+ only let's you make one char that you can't delete because it's saved on Capcom servers. That forcing to pay micro transactions to make another char or edit the char you already made. Seems like a fail of a move to me.

It cost $6 to fast travel. You can earn fast travel in the game but they made its very very costly to earn in game.

Alright, it's been confirmed now that EVERY single item on the dlc list is indeed obtainable, including the 'Art of Metamorphosis' that is used to alter character appearances via in-game means by just normally playing the game.

So the review-bombing was for nothing but knee-jerk reactions and smoke-and-mirrors...

Hopefully once people realize this they might walk back their reviews, but i do feel that maybe it would be best if Capcom just removed some of these items from the DLC store outright; so not to cause further outrage and confusion.  x__x

Either way i'm personally having a blast, i've only crashed once and it was within the first hour before a patch went through.

I'm really taking my sweet time so i'm still in the single digits.  I hope the level cap works the same like the first game.

I am glad you are having fun  with it. I read those reviews and it concerned me greatly. How hard is it to get these items? I played both versions of the og and I guess I do not remember fast travel, but are they really charging cash for something like that?
  • AbimorAbimor Member RarePosts: 919
so I just read the article about this review bombing https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/dragons-dogma-2-launches-to-mostly-negative-review-bombing-after-microtransaction-reveal-and-man-what-a-bummer

kinda seems like it's deserving of it's fate. It's getting to the point where it's not just death and taxes but also shitty micro transactions.

People are really panning the poor optimization, framerate and post launch microtransactions on Steam. Make sure you are 100% happy with how you look or pay for the privilege of altering your avatar once you start the game. But I won't get it until down the line anyway, hopefully apart from the MT everything will be sorted out.

I only have 4.5 hours into the DD2 so far, but it's been great fun. It's DD1 but with new textures and, imo, way better controls due to it being way more fluid and less clunky. No load screens are a huge bonus.

I don't think the deluxe version of the game is worth the upgrade though. The only thing you get is some healing items, a single use camp tent, and a ring that gives you a couple kg of weight limit and some defense, not a lot of defense either.

I'm on a RTX2080 ti, and my frames have been fine even once I made it to the first city. I chose to walk instead of taking the ox cart and saw plenty of combat along the way.

I'm not saying the complaints aren't real but neither do you have to be on the absolute latest hardware to get decent frames. I wonder if there's some setting I have disabled that they have enabled? I have all the DLSS stuff off.

So glad I didn't buy this. $70 for the single player game, and you need to spend more to change how you look.

    No thanks.

Looks like Capcom is addressing the issue at least in regards to restarts / remakes and will attempt to create an option so that you can restart a new game completely.

Steam is still a bloodbath, up 6k more reviews from earlier to 12k+ and still mixed with 40% positive, many refunds.

To Dragon's Dogma 2 players on Steam
To all Dragon's Dogma 2 players

We would like to update you on the status of the following items, about which we have received numerous comments from the community. To all those looking forward to this game, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

    ■Crashes and bug fixes
We are investigating/fixing critical problems such as crashes and freezing.
We will be addressing crashes and bug fixes starting from those with the highest priority in patches in the near future.

■The option of starting a new game
We are looking at adding a feature to the Steam version of the game that will allow players that are already playing to restart the game. We will announce more details as soon as we can.

    ■Paid DLC
All the items listed below can be obtained in-game or as paid DLC items.
Art of Metamorphosis - Character Editor
Ambivalent Rift Incense - Change Pawn Inclinations
    Portcrystal - Warp Location Marker
Wakestone - Restore the dead to life!
500 Rift Crystals / 1500 Rift Crystals / 2500 Rift Crystals - Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
Makeshift Gaol Key - Escape from gaol!
Harpysnare Smoke Beacons - Harpy Lure Item

    ■Regarding Frame Rate
A large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and calculating the impact of their physical presence in various areas. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.

I reckon the one character limit has always been a flaw worthy of major critique and defending it because it was a thing in the first game is a non-argument.

    I don't really think it's a flaw. That's a very "gamer" thing to say. Someone doesn't like something so "it's a flaw."

And you're right in that other people think it's a flaw. I've seen the complaints.

I don't think it's a flaw at all. It's a design decision. Especially because you can be every vocation in the game.

The issue as I see it is that you can't delete your game and start anew. Apparently they are going to add that.

Seems like an oversight of large proportions. Though for some reason "it's a design decision."

I am curious about something. People on these forums and others are raving about this game. Many of the same people openly went after other games that had a $70 price point. This game does as well and so far not a word. Clearly with the reveal of microtransctions, optimization issues and anti-cheat software it has some of the same issues as those other games but all the sudden people are "ok" with $70. I don't get it. I truly don't.

By the way, mostly negative on Steam now and many reviewers are going back and re-reviewing it after the reveal of (what appears to me) to be a very aggressive micotransaction scheme. I am just confused why this game seems to be getting a pass and others don't.
