Wait, it's a seasonal game? I don't want to re-make characters every 3 months. (this was one of the reasons I left D4 behind)

So it's odd, I've actually found that I don't need to play in the league - a character I made a year ago or so is still around and usable. You can just opt into the league for rewards and such, if I understand the system right. If anything, players are just really committed to the whole league thing.

optional seasons.  You can stay in the nonseasonal version.
