Crop Circle Games is the latest studio to shut down, following an initial round of layoffs and furloughs last month. The closure, from owner Prytania, comes amid allegations of no severance and other moves to limit employee rights.

    That's pretty horrible. Everyone of these layoff stories makes me thankful I never got into the gaming industry. Sounds romantic and sexy on the surface. Oh I make games for a living how fun! Ask the former employees of Crop Circle how fun it is. There's a few big studios in the area where I live and the couple of times I've met an actual game developer it always sounded like a sweatshop. I don't know if you can call 2-3 interactions "industry average", though. I certainly don't consider myself an expert on the gaming industry, but yah. I'm definitely not regretting my decision to stick with building business software. Been at my currently company 10+ years now, and barring some cataclysmic event in the economy I'll retire from there. Very rarely have I put in overtime.

    Why create a game company when a couple guys in collage can make a video game in 2 months and it sells well on Steam?

    If you didn't see the hint, there is a cautionary tale within the above sentence.
