Frontier Developments revealed plans to sell ships for real money in Elite: Dangerous in a new announcement made to the community. Upfront, let's just say this has gone over with players about as well as we'd expect.

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
While it does work and I have recently within the last week spent a fair bit of time on the game, there is a fair bit missing, and the Odyssey expansion if it's called that (with planets to land on, a fps mode and such like) went down like a lead balloon with many issues, and only now is regarded to be "OK" albeit quite flavourless.
Elite dangerous is great, but it lacks a bit of colour and substance. By that I mean, (at least for me) as I fell for the exobiology (scanning stuff on planets) and quickly made more money than I should have, meaning that I ended up feeling like I'd broke my character as I was able to upgrade to the normal version of that ship, and while the game did not become trivial, the progression instantly became boring..
As for selling the ship, if it helps them to create a more stimulating game, i'm all for it. At least it's not a stupid amount of money. After all from release until now, they've only ever sold cosmetics.
They did and do.
Have fun

And that expansion is free too. All of the expansions are free. Buy the game once, and you get the whole game, no cash shop and no paid DLC's. How can they *do* that?

Well Chris can't have all the loot, Elite are looking his way and saying "lets jump on the bandwagon". P2W at its finest.
It is generally inadvisable to engage in the sale of spacecraft within this games community.
If I wanna spend $13 (US) to buy a Python II before August 7th, then that is MY business, and it does not affect YOU! WHY are you people crying about it!
Frontier has kept this going for TEN YEARS now and it's great that they have offered as much as they have for no more cash outta pocket! Once you buy it, No more money is needed unless you want to have an expansion... as nearly everything else out there.
NO PAY TO WIN HERE PEOPLE!
Yes they are offering things like a pre-engineered mining ship or a Bug Hunting ship that does NOT make PVP any easier! Chill out, Cool off, and let Frontier make a few bucks from those of us wanting to pay something CHEAP to have early access!
Great Business Model, No Harm Done, and if you are too broke to get early access, don't whine to "we who do" have the cash for it.

I. DO. NOT. CARE.
What I would like as a small consideration is a game where I can go play with other folks without those elements. I'd be happy to pay a $50 sub per month for a nice new game that didn't have any of that. I understand the developers need to eat, and I'm happy to pay for a game where you earn what you have in the game.
I understand I'll never get that.
If anyone needs me I'll be doing other things.
