Players get infuriated when other people buy things in the cash shop that they don't want to spend money on themselves.

Well this is shit news but in their defense they at least brought a working game to the market before starting these shenanigans.

While it does work and I have recently within the last week spent a fair bit of time on the game, there is a fair bit missing, and the Odyssey expansion if it's called that (with planets to land on, a fps mode and such like) went down like a lead balloon with many issues, and only now is regarded to be "OK" albeit quite flavourless.

Elite dangerous is great, but it lacks a bit of colour and substance. By that I mean, (at least for me) as I fell for the exobiology (scanning stuff on planets) and quickly made more money than I should have, meaning that I ended up feeling like I'd broke my character as I was able to upgrade to the normal version of that ship, and while the game did not become trivial, the progression instantly became boring..

As for selling the ship, if it helps them to create a more stimulating game, i'm all for it. At least it's not a stupid amount of money. After all from release until now, they've only ever sold cosmetics.

I realize there is some sort of multiplayer component but do players directly interact with each other? Does buying this ship give a player a greater. Edge?

This news just makes me like NMS even more. There are a ton of different ships, with all kinds of different stats, and none of them are for sale. You have to find them, or earn them, or buy them with in-game currency. The last expansion even allows you to customize your ships with cosmetics.

And that expansion is free too. All of the expansions are free. Buy the game once, and you get the whole game, no cash shop and no paid DLC's. How can they *do* that?

I mean... It's $12. Are we really going to be upset over that? That's less than it costs me for a #1 combo meal at Jimmy John's, so... Yeah not like they're pricing it out of reach for anyone. Personally I find the game really tedious and boring so I don't play it. On top of that I hate the flight model. You can't yaw left and right because.... reasons. Makes no sense in space. Still, If I had a better VR Headset I might play it more because it does have a very good VR implementation. Probably the best in the industry for a space sim. That all being said when I look at the value of my time verses the price of this ship and how long it would take me to grind for it, I'd pay the $12. I'm sure someone out there looks down on me for that and I don't give one single crap.

Certain armaments and components within these kits are associated with the activation of specific engineering enhancements. However, the majority of these fittings seem to be of a type that is easily accessible and of an inferior grade compared to those that are more commonly utilized.

It is generally inadvisable to engage in the sale of spacecraft within this games community.

The game has been on the market for 10 years. If they have to sell ships for real money to stay afloat I would take that business model than 99% of whats out there.

ALL of you WHINING about paying for EARLY Access to new features need a LIFE!
If I wanna spend $13 (US) to buy a Python II before August 7th, then that is MY business, and it does not affect YOU! WHY are you people crying about it!
Frontier has kept this going for TEN YEARS now and it's great that they have offered as much as they have for no more cash outta pocket! Once you buy it, No more money is needed unless you want to have an expansion... as nearly everything else out there.
NO PAY TO WIN HERE PEOPLE!
Yes they are offering things like a pre-engineered mining ship or a Bug Hunting ship that does NOT make PVP any easier! Chill out, Cool off, and let Frontier make a few bucks from those of us wanting to pay something CHEAP to have early access!
Great Business Model, No Harm Done, and if you are too broke to get early access, don't whine to "we who do" have the cash for it.

When you make a Best-in-Class product you can set the price!

If there's a demand someone will buy it!  :)

Since these these are fully fledge ships inside out and not just outside modelled skins, they take a bit longer and therefore cost more to make.

I'm fine with pay-to-win and I don't care if people buy ships, uber swords of bloodletting, or plots of land and castles.  Spend $12, $1,200, $12,000.00 - you can put it all on your dad's credit card, and whore your way to internet fame in a video game.

    Lootboxes?
    Casino?
    NFT?
    Blockchain?
    Play-To-Earn?

    I. DO. NOT. CARE.

What I would like as a small consideration is a game where I can go play with other folks without those elements.  I'd be happy to pay a $50 sub per month for a nice new game that didn't have any of that.  I understand the developers need to eat, and I'm happy to pay for a game where you earn what you have in the game.

I understand I'll never get that.
If anyone needs me I'll be doing other things.

People are entitled to a game with features advertised, that they paid for. Now if the company wants to sell ships for real money, that's fine; but they should do so through DLC. Not just ships but it should be a package with cosmetics as well. The new ships should not have any advantage over another of its type, or it will be P2W; and no one wants that.

What is bad here, is unlike SC, which has always been a CC fueled e-peen sword fight, Elite Dangerous is introducing these elements after people who don't like that sort of thing have invested a considerable amount of time in the title.

What bad about this is that some of these ships come with advantages you wont get unless you buy them too.

Unless I am mistaken some of these will have a zero credit buy back in game if it get destroyed unless I misread/understood something in the official forums.

Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. They have a cash shop already.

The game didn't click with me for several reasons. Of all the reasons I'm not likely to play it again though, this isn't one of them.

I'll just keep playing NMS. I like the game. And I like how they roll.
