If "coming quickly" is over 6 years late, then sure. It's rocketing forward at a blistering pace.
Mess with the best, Die like the rest
ashes of...development
7 years of devoplment is a small normal development cycle for the stage the game is at. I do believe Steven is owed all the flack in the world for lying about a launch date. But anyone that believed a new studio launching could make a game this ambitious could do so that quickly. Also deserves being poked fun at as well.
Each weapon will have its own skill set you can pull from to make your fighting style. It's not much different that ESO having caster tanks. Or any other battle mage you see in fantasy.
They promised an access to ALPHA 2 in 2018. Yes, I'm mad that they have missed that obligation by nearly 7 years now. Why shouldn't I be? If you ordered something that was promised by a date and wasn't delivered for 7 years, wouldn't you be? I expect people to keep their commitments, especially in a business deal where money changes hands.
I remember back when Horizons was a thing and there were 15 distinct races - each with multiple cities all with unique race specific architecture. There were playable dragons all the way down to tiny fairies and an aquatic race to boot.
So, I logged onto the forum and asked a developer. I wrote "how on earth would anyone have time to put together all that material? 15 distinct architectures spread across multiple cities?" He confessed it wasn't going to happen. It was entirely too much work.
That is when I stopped following the project.
The very little I know about AoC causes me to look no further into it. The words "open world PvP" + "caravans" in my way of thinking is the sort of nonsense that would be muttered by someone totally unfamiliar with the past 20 years of MMORPG development (1). Additionally, the complex city/territory system - and the ever-expanding complexity of the different skills/classes has caused me to believe these guys won't ever deliver.
It seems to me Star Citizen with an unlimited budget and 10 years is still quite a way off from crossing the finish line, and I think that project is about half as ambitious.
I don't know why developers don't deliver a working base game and add features as they go - can you imagine what the bug report ticket queue would look like on a game like AoC that launched with all its features on Day #1?
