Oh, wow soooo impressive. I'm very sure that the people affected by losing their income and health insurance and putting their futures in jeopardy are very comforted by the loss of pixels.

This is just bait to distract people to make everyone think "Yeah! We got em!!" Well, you didn't.

I really like the Flatwoods Monster PA skin he's wearing. It will be cool during Halloween. I'd like to buy it, but the bundle is a bit spendy and I want to save the Atoms for now.

When I saw this on Reddit, I noticed there are a lot of misconceptions about launching nukes, timers, what happens next, and all that. I have 46 Key cards stashed and I'm thinking about going on a launch spree. I'd have to do some practice runs and start farming more cards. It's something to think about.

The costs for rebuilding a nuked based aren't that bad either. Slot the 2 Star Contractor perk first and it halves your construction building/repair costs. The perk works in Workshops and Shelters too.

The real travesty being this guy is the CEO of the games division which means he's really just a Vice President. He still gets told what to do. I promise when it comes down to financial decisions he was told he had to do layoffs. He probably had control over who made that list, but he didn't have any authority to say "no we're not doing layoffs".

It probably went something like this:

Accounting saw some big numbers coming out of HR for salary projections that put them over budget probably by a lot.
HR and Accounting got together to do a deep dive and validate what they were seeing on the reports and where all this overage was coming from (games division).
The HR and Accounting VPs called a meeting with the CFO to go over the numbers.
The CFO met with the actual MS CEO Satya Nadella.
The CFO and Nadella make the call cuts need to happen in the games division.
Nadella calls Spencer into his office and reviews the numbers, the decision, and tells Spencer the number he needs to hit for the layoffs (total salary cuts).
Spencer calls his VPs into a meeting and regurgitates what he was just told by Nadella and they start planning where to make the cuts at a high level (per studio).
The VPs the call in their directors and task them with actually making the hard decision of who makes the list.
The lists are collated and reviewed by the VPs and Spencer.
Spencer approves the list and it goes to HR.
    Layoffs ensue.

And for basically doing what he was told, someone nukes this guy's base in F76. How heroic. Hope he doesn't strain himself patting himself on the back.

Well when you are CEO maybe you need to step up and be a little more than a yes man and do what your told by some stupid CFO number cruncher (that has no vision).  All they see is, no new games coming, if they cut X they will save X over the next X .  Guess what, they can cut almost all their staff and save even MORE!!!, close all their buildings, profits would be amazing next year.  Watch the profit roll in.

CEO "Could Have Said", I dont think this will be a good idea.  This could cost us more down the line.  How many billions will we lose from not producing products.

How about we go back and do a cost analysis of how much will be saved with these cuts, vs how much will be lost down the line over 2-10 years by not producing the next big game?

How about, I have met with my team and we have come up with great ideas that will make us more Profit!!! instead of cutting, we need to be hiring.

But when you are part of the problem that has led this company down into a spiral, all they can do is watch as the turd is flushed.

I used to nuke players bases sometimes just because they were located in my regular camp spots if it was on a game world instance all of my friends were already playing on.

Since most players pay attention to the warnings they log out before the bomb drops.

Takes a while for the residual radiation to wear off but usually I could log in with my own camp at some point.

Became less problematic after they added feature to allow players to have more than one camp per character.

Form what I read in the article. The guy did it because he was Phil Spencer...not because of the lay offs. More like he discovered it was his spot in game and did it. Point is it's a game and just like Lord British got killed it was done more for the novelty of getting someone you know in real life as a notable person and nuking their base. It wasn't done to avenge the people who were laid off.

Yeah you missed the whole point. This guy isn't CEO. Yes, he has that title, but functionality he's a Vice President. He reports to Nadella, the actual CEO of Microsoft. Point being he has no authority to make the decision you said he should make. He can suggest it, but if the CFO and Nadella override him, he has no authority to argue.

The idea that Microsoft is circling the drain is pretty funny. Do you seriously think Microsoft is on the verge of shutting down? I can assure you they're not. As of this writing they're trading at $414 per share. I don't think they have any concerns about being delisted or needing to file for bankruptcy any time soon.

Microsoft is not, but Blizzard is.  This is what a big monopoly like MS will do.  But up some big hit like Minecraft, then just add it to its existing network and sit on the profits.  They dont even need a staff other than to keep the sales of the existing system running.

They are buying up all the IP's, going to combine them with their existing service, layoff all the creatives and keep on moving along.

Then if another up and coming studio starts to shine, just buy them out, add them to their network.

If some big former competitor starts to circle the drain, they can buy up all their IP's and combine them into the growing blob it has.  No need to create anything.  Just continue to exist.

Xbox is fine I am not sure why their layoffs mean their Xbox division is failing, it is not, at all.
Xbox FY24 Q2 gaming revenue up 49% year-over-year, driven by impact of Activision Blizzard acquisition | Windows Central

Layoffs have affected so many companies all across the world in every industry. Not sure why anyone would vilify one person or company when a tremendous number have done it and continue to do so.
Very poor business acumen by a ton of commentors here.

Sony laid off 900 people across multiple studios. Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Guerrilla Games

“These are incredibly talented people who have been part of our success, and we are very grateful for their contributions,”
“However, the industry has changed immensely, and we need to future ready ourselves to set the business up for what lies ahead.”

    Sounds like Phil huh?

It isn't, that is a quote from PlayStation.

    This is a weird take.
Blizzard's struggles have zero to do with MS and I think you know that.

It isn't very expensive to repair a base and reports from longer term players are that his base isn't very elaborate either. I think this is more about a player grabbing 15 minutes of fame and trying to provoke Phil into a lopsided pvp match.

No mention of the other bases that got nuked. It used to happen a lot like Kyleran mentioned above.

Looking at that picture, looks like the dude is likely running some sort of beserker's junky build. I'd put good odds on that being an assassin's gatling plasma and coupled with that build, he's a wrecking ball of death. It would be foolish for Phil to take up the challenge without a proper pvp meta build and some experience.

I have 50 keycards. I'm sure you still have a good stack. I think Mideval Mayhem has over a hundred. Think about all the havoc that could be wreaked on public servers, giving players a taste of the Wasteland!

You know what real news about this game is? How horrible the new "battle pass" format is. But instead, sites like this go for the low hanging fluff of empty articles about nothing and inaccurate corporate hiring.

This current season is a big flop with the majority of core FO76 players. It adds a huge level of grind and it isn't very fun.

Maybe report on that and what Bethesda plans to do about it, if anything. Of course that wouldn't get the salacious clicks, so here we are with a nothing burger of an article and clueless comments about corporate politics.

I wonder if Phil has anything else people could blow up, like a hastily-built log cabin in minecraft. I mean he doesn't seem like the type of person who puts much thought into something.

If this game launched in 2008 it would have been amazing.
