It's a shame. I think they were close to having something here, but some of the stuff just didn't click.

Well at least they are not trying to blame Covid over hiring, hopefully those guys land on their feet.

Its not a bad game at all. Its solid in a lot of ways and has some really cool things.

However, like many other games, there are just other games that I want to play more and those take precedence in a crowded lineup of games.

My problem, at least when it first came out and I tried it, was that it was kind of hard to do anything together.  Sure you can go do things next to each other, but not really together.  We couldn't jointly control any building structures, etc...

Maybe that changed now, but was a real drawback when I gave it a look.

Instanced housing is a game killer for community efforts, IMHO.

If you can be in the instance as a guild its alright, but still rather insular.

There are ways to do instancing and still get some community feeling without the headaches of non-instanced housing, the way BDO did it: have multiple houses next to one another and each player has an instance in any of those houses.

Of course there is a limit to this design: the players can only decorate the inside, they cannot change the outside.

Otherwise they could do group instances, like Scot hinted. GW2 did this with its guild halls.

From what I read they have a completely separate player instance, like Albion did, which indeed does not lend itself to community efforts at all.

Not saying I am in favor or against the instanced approach, there are tradeoffs with all of them.
The alternative, putting housing in the regular zones has bigger issues, especially if you allow players to build their own homes. You just can't allow say the Bree zone in Lotro to be overrun, so what do you do? If you have a separate single zone accessible from Bree with all the housing in it that might be better especially if each guild had its own "patch" but you can still just wander from one patch to another. But this is one of those gaming conundrums with no prefect solution.

Unfortunately, it's pretty much industry standard to lay off the people who made the game once the game has been made. I suspect that's all this is, more than any problem with the game or community relations.

"The interior of houses is seamlessly instanced so you won't be forced to compete with other players for a location. When you interact with a door, you select whose property you want to enter and that is what you see when the door opens. But if you set a unit to "My House", you will get ranked by interior scores for the entire player base to see."

A very elegant solution to what you say imo. But yes, no solution is perfect.

I like internally instanced housing. EQ2 did this a long time ago and has a reputation for a great housing setup. New World also does a great job with this.

Problem is the cash shop. Great game but I'm not paying $15 Canadian for an outfit that is one color and I need to pay more money to unlock other colors. And the designs were really bad. The default clothing looked better.

ESO I could buy my wife a dress on sale for $6 to $10 bucks and they looked great and full outfits for $15 that could be dyed for free.

I just did not find the cash shop had fair prices or anything I would like to see on my char.

Game has been out for a bit.

This is what happens when you try to make a "cozy", non-combat, community MMO.

No one cared and quickly left. And their money left with them.

The layoffs are because the developer don't have the money to pay employees because there is no one playing the game.

Damn, I wish I could buy my non-existent wife a dress for only $10...oh in game, sheesh.

I'm ecstatic if that really is the case. I love to see any free-to-play developer crash and burn because people are saying no to their obnoxious microtransactions.

I don't know much about this game but were the microtransactions that bad?
