It won't be possible to host servers on your own computer for Dune: Awakening. We may investigate in the future some possibilities for hosting, but not at launch.
We are working on a blog post that will explain the server infrastructure for the game which will hopefully give some insight into the topic.
Speaking of topic, please stay on topic on these threads, they are usually derailed by some personal vendetta.
There will be pve and pvp zones but from what I have garned resources will be little/limited in pve zones so while not forced to you will have to go into pvp zones and from what I read if will be griefer heaven if you corrolate how they set up discord houses and the way it works in there right now or so I have read.
If there no way to have your own private/dedicated world I will likely pass as it will turn to crapola real quick. If its like I think twill be then it'll end up another failed pvp game with devs wondering why players are too immature not to ruin a whole server just for shits and giggles.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Maybe they should ask Japan for help to get their multiplayer options set up; because, no one else can do it right, or at all. Seriously, the first online game I ever played was from Japan, and on a console: Phantasy Star Online, Dreamcast. Yes it was a beta, but it worked. Then they moved that game to Game Cube. I mean seriously, it's been 40 fucking years and we still can't get multiplayer right. Maybe the problem is they don't want to spend the money on proper labor: people with skills and talent.
Seems like very few people want this to be a full PvP MMO, which is how Funcom keeps wanting to describe it. I hope they start listening to the players before it's too late. As things are looking right now, my friends and I wouldn't go near it, even though one of us is a hardcore Dune fanatic.

They really shot themselves in the foot because we know they can make a game like this with a backend that can be self-hosted, they just don't want to. What other reason to force self-hosting other than nasty monetization and data collection?
It's failcom it will either be abandoned like the last few titles they tried to produce. Or it will be a trainwreck of bs no one asked for. This whole super harsh survival genre needs to die already....no one likes it....name one that's still relevant 2 months let alone 2 years later. It's just pumping out more garbage to cash in on the movies.

That's because there's too many cheaters and assholes. It's why I quit Eve Online, and why I don't like PvP in general. I'd rather it be a option, a fair one. Want PvP? Go to the place for it, or flag it; don't force it. That's just my opinion though.
