Well our own Wargfoot has shown how this may not be as sunny as this article paints the changes. We shall see how the games population does after a few weeks post launch.

I don't want to dump on their efforts.
It would be more accurate to say that they burned me out of 100s of hours of work and headed off in an entirely different direction than I'd care to support. Given the low population I don't blame the team for trying a new approach. For me it is a game; however, for these guys they're trying to make a living.
While I wish them the best, I don't think the "WIPE AND WE'LL COME BACK" crowd will deliver. Trading long term players like myself for those guys isn't the approach I'd take, but then that's how we learn. It will interesting to watch.
While I'm sure the need for a cash infusion is driving their design changes they did explain why Tartaros, the PVP planet was removed and what might be done with it post release.
"You likely have noticed that Tartaros is not listed here. The reason is that, given the new PvP rules and the need to have more end-game content instead of yet more horizonal content (a planet contains mobs from CR 2 to 10), the original idea of an FFA PvP planet no longer makes sense in its original form.
We will open another roundtable with the community to figure out what you like best – scrapping the Demon planet as a whole to focus on other features, or re-envision it as end-game content. If it ends up being the latter, it could take priority over Asteroids, but only time (and your feedback) will tell.

If you flag "good" it will be impossible for people to attack you anywhere outside of special events.
