Yep, well they're going head to head with Ghost of Tsushima which is a pretty fantastic game and plays very similar to AC in many ways although it also takes inspiration from games like Horizon Zero Dawn. Granted one could argue HZD takes inspiration from AC. Anyway, the melee in Ghost is absolutely fantastic. Truly the highlight of that game. It's very souls-like without the overall difficulty of a souls-like. By that I mean the combat is similar but when you die in Ghost it doesn't reset you all the way back to the beginning of a level. If you die to a boss, you try again on that boss. I'll probably play it just because I love Feudal Japan and Samurai and all the Japanese Mythology that goes with it. Hope it's good.

No one would have batted an eyelid 15 years ago and all would have been fine.... However racism against white people today has just got everyone's backs up. No one is putting up with race and gender swapping any more as it spells their true motive. This nonsense is coming for Japan as well and we all hope they wake up to it before it takes over and destroys their culture.

I am totally interested and could not give a damn about who the main character is, I mean the gender. I want to know about the historical character though. I loved Horizon Zero Dawn. It was an amazing game.

I still feel like maybe Ubisoft just should have tried something different, but to be frank, this really falls squarely on how media and literature (fictional literature) has chosen to portray this historical figure, and to the best knowledge that is available, was ostensively the japanese version of a slave in the 15th century; only being granted a Tanto (short sword) and from what some records state; a horse.

He was given the name Yasuke by Oda Nobunaga and was sent back to the Jesuits following Oda's death during the Honnō-ji Incident in Kyoto on June the 21st, 1582.

But with that said, what is done is done, the best thing Ubisoft can do at this point is try to make the game the best they can, and really lean into that 'choice' aspect, because this historical person is probably the closest embodyment to a 'blank slate' - there is almost nothing truly known about Yasuke as a person including his birth name; so letting the player really develope who this person is or isn't in a fictional reality is probably the best thing they can do for him.

    DEI the game.

I will say Ghost of Tsushima is largely respectful to Japanese heritage. The central focus of the game is around honor and if you would sacrifice it to save lives. The only "woke" part are a couple of mentions of homosexual relationships, but if you do some research those are actually historically accurate. They don't focus on romance, though. Feels like enough of a sidebar to appease the left so they don't end up with the woke police showing up threatening to cancel them. It's not front and center, though.

Without playing both I will say it's going to be tough to beat especially if they're going to make AC about some social agenda.

    Player choice huh?

As a player, I choose a Japanese male as my protagonist in Japan. Seems reasonable.

Wait what? WHERE'S MY CHOICE BRO.

uBeCrap: You're not allowed to be a Japanese man while in Japan, because diversity and player choice bruh.

    And there are....

    *checks notes*

Literally worse things than this in the world. There are actual, legitimate problems in the world, and this is literally not one of them. Talk about first world 'problems'.

Find some actual, real issue that really deserves complaining about lmao
