Same in gaming, players can decline to participate however the developers will punish them via their designs with slower progression and /or rewards, being told if they don't like it they should just leave.
That's the toll for straying from the path intended. I paid it routinely in the early days and sometimes still opt to now.
Yeah, I did too but then I realized multi boxing and buff botting could compensate for the design deficiencies.
That is a solution for some for sure. When I tried I didn't find it enjoyable.
Its very rare for soloers to want grouping removed from games What mostly happens is that they want to be given the option to solo
Why would soloists care about grouping? We've already removed ourselves from it. That it continues around us regardless is inconsequential to our play.

You guys have the wrong idea you think that there is one group that only solos and another that only groups while the majority of players solos and groups depending on their mood at the time
That isn't what soloists do other than when content absolutely requires it for a character to advance. It is what people that enjoy both and sometimes solo do, or are at least willing to when their favoured playing partners aren't available.
In my almost 25 years of playing mmos I only met a handful of pure soloists and some for some of them it wasnt by choice (they had some form of disability and didnt wont to slow a group down) What usually happens is ppl solo until friends/guildies log in And of course there are those who dont solo at all and are happy to group with strangers but as the mmo scene has got more toxic it getting fewer of the with passing time
Of course you don't often meet soloists. We don't play to socialize. As such the percentage of soloists you've met will be small. Regardless, even if we could be identified in totality I expect we'd be a small minority of MMORPG players overall.
What is more common is those that sometimes play solo, as you say. But as I said, they aren't really soloists. For them it is but one manner of play among others and likely not their preference.
For soloists playing solo is ideally the exclusive manner of play, and short of that as close as possible.

Many solo players care about grouping because they want the same rewards as group players.
When WoW announced solo focused Delves for The War Within the responses quickly went from "yay, solo content for me" to "what are the rewards?"

They can have them. All they need do is group.
That's the cost of being a soloist in a MMORPG. Not everything in it is going to be about what you alone can do. Some of it is will be targeted toward groups. If you aren't powerful enough to do such alone you must do other than.

I once had a conversation with an EVE player who had started on Day One and in 13 years he had done nothing but mine totally solo.
He never joined a guild, teamed to mine with others, run sleepers or any other content, just solo mined.
He seemed like a rather lonely sort. He lived on the dole and except for an occasional foray to a local pub where he drank alone he didn't seem to have much else in his life besides solo mining in EVE, day in and day out.

Its down to what we have to do in a group, for me not leveling, but everything else could be. Raids, mini raids, downtime bar for "combat fatigue", PvP, crafting, building your house, trading, fishing with nets, mini games like Hutball. So solo and group leveling should be on a par the rest can potentially only be done with a group.

I would give group a slight bonus to lvling to reward the trouble of building a group and sustain it
Depends on how easy it is to form a group, what if you always played solo and were always in a soft group with the nearest seven people to you? Not saying that's my preferred system, but the fine tuning of every gameplay element depends on all the other gameplay elements.

He may find socializing difficult, which would account for his remoteness in both the game and real life. For someone like that on a limited income playing MMORPGs solo can provide abundant entertainment for the price. Without his solo mining those occasional pub visits may have been all he had.
Think of it then as his life line, that one thing always there to give him some ongoing sense of purpose imaginary as it may be. We all need something of that nature to maintain the drive to endure in the later years.
He likely was lonely but at least that loneliness wasn't entirely empty.

you don’t understand that any game that leans heavily on grouping is not forced as you chose to buy it.
is a grouping game. Make the choice to buy it or not.
