Light No Fire Has My Attention

WargfootWargfoot Member EpicPosts: 1,458
I'm not a huge fan of the color palette and some of the creatures are a bit too fantastic for me; however, instead of going on hype I'm largely interested in the developer Hello Games and the fact they're not a bunch of pansies who quit on a vision when things get tough.  They do an incredible amount of work with a small team, they deliver what they promise, and they can roll all the lessons learned in No Man's Sky into this new title.

I've some hesitation as to whether or not the game will be to my tastes; however, I've no doubt they're deliver which is more than can be said for most.

See: Light No Fire Announcement Trailer (youtube.com)

At the very least this one is worth watching, because dollar for dollar these guys deliver excellent value.

Granted, Light No Fire sounds more like a zombie thriller where light at night attracts hoards of undead but you need the fire to fight off the large radio-active bugs.

Has the attention of many people since the announcement.   Just a matter of WHEN.

Wish listed it day one. Like you im not losing sleep over my hype level, but the development team has got to be some of the best in the industry. If they can take the disastrous launch of NMS and turn it into the game it is today without so much as a paid expansion or questionable cash shop shenanigans then for sure I take them at their word this game will happen. Will it be to my taste? Maybe maybe not. We'll see but I'm very interested to see the end product and will most likely play it unless it's just totally not something I want to play like some turn based strategy game. That seems unlikely.

I also wish listed day one. Ever since Skyrim, any game that is in the "go in any direction you can see and explore" genre is going to pique my interest. The turn around for No Man's Sky is amazing and like mentioned, they did not nickle and dime folks to do it so the company has my trust (for now).

Another Day One Wishlister here, too.  I haven't bothered to check up on it since, because I'm happy to ignore the hype and just wait for Steam to email me when it drops.

Your self-control is an example for all of us.

I sent them a certified letter with three credit card numbers for them to use, begging them to buy it all when available.

I need to be more like you.

The current estimated release is Q4 2024, so not that far off.

They haven't released very much information yet. It's "multiplayer" on one world. Does that mean it is instanced? All players (all 10,000) in one instance? Is it like NMS where all players play in the same universe but only 32 at any one time together?

I think they should use the multi-biome procedural generation for all planets in NMS and just release this part as an unpaid DLC

They seem to be unique in the gaming industry; a small team makes a game with no cash shop, no P2W, no paid DLC's, everything is free after buying the game once. And lots of updates, all free.

My expectation is that we will see a delay in that date. We'd have seen a lot more in game footage and probably media previews by now if it were a 2024 release. Also I expect the multiplayer to use very similar technology to NMS. It's going to be an iteration of the whole NMS engine. Instead of trillions of worlds it's going to be one world but the size of Earth. Honestly that part blows my mind. However it's going to be using an updated version of their procedural engine and an updated version of their network and instancing code. They won't be reinventing any wheels but rather iterating in the ones they already have in house which is why I'm confident this game will happen.

I'd be surprised if that wasn't the long term goal.

I'm interested too. I absolutely love that they've been quiet since the release and hope they save informative reveals and marketing hype until shortly before launch.
