I bet if you were offered a million dollars to give some reasons you'd come up with them just fine. ; ) It's an absolutely beautiful and amazing game. A masterpiece.

I use to think that about souls games as I never even got past the "tutorial" boss at the start of DS3 and I thought souls-likes just weren't for me. Playing Elden Ring changed that. I beat the game then did it again in new game+ and now have almost 400 hours after playing the new DLC. I also played a few more souls-like (Lords of the Fallen and Remnant 2) and had fun with them, too.

Beginning Shadow of the Erdtree can be difficult of you're under a certain level (I wouldn't start it until you're at least 150) or if you haven't fully upgraded your weapons. There's resources you have to gather in the DLC that make you and your summons more powerful. Once you get enough of them things should go a bit more smoothly.

The irony is that I don't really like other Souls games. I couldn't stand Bloodborne and made it to the 3rd boss in Demon Souls before I got bored/frustrated. However, Elden Ring and its expansion fix a lot of the issues I had with all the other games in the series.

First, the way boss rooms are designed is that you can spawn right before the boss if you die. This gives you time to just focus on learning the boss and all of their mechanics without having to fight through a ton of enemies, and wasting potions, every time you respawn. Having a huge world to level in and explore also makes getting 'stuck' not feel so bad because there's always something else to do and other ways to progess/gain power.

I personally really like tough boss fights but absolutely hate having to kill chaff enemies over and over again to get to said boss. Also, I don't really like having to 'grind' for levels when getting stuck on a boss that is simply beyond my level, but exploring other parts of the world in Elden Ring helps you level and doesn't really feel like grinding (at least the way I did it).

Finally, there are so many different weapons with different move sets that cater to different playstyles that I've never been so excited in another game when I found a cool, new weapon to try.

I played the original and got like 2.5 hours into it and thought "what the hell have I gotten myself into?" and refunded it. Recently, though, I played through Ghost of Tsushima which while it isn't a "Souls Like" definitely has pretty challenging combat that gives a sense of satisfaction when you get it right. I assume it's that sense of accomplishment that drive people to play souls-like games. It's like golf. You fail a bunch but when you finally hit that line drive that sails 300 yards it's pretty satisfying and rewarding. I may dive back in when it goes on a deep sale.

I love Elden Ring and ended up loving Shadow of the Erdtree. That being said, something I did not love was the layout of the land. Dear God, the Land of Shadow is an absolute MAZE, with no natural flow like the Lands Between. It's impressive how much they packed in, but getting around is a nightmare.

I'm new to Elden Ring, is it better than wow or Blade&Soul?

If they ever remove the black bars for ultrawide users (without locking me out of multiplayer), I will play it.

It's more of a single player game though you can summon a friend or even a stranger to help you with things. However, once you do that you open yourself up to pvp as another player can "invade" your game.

Now, "my personal" taste is that "yes" it's much better than either of those games. But in fairness that's comparing apples to oranges.

People saying Elden Ring is hard... Bro, Sekiro is hard. Really hard that is also hard to be enjoyed. Elden Ring is not hard, and I am not a very skilled player. I'm almost finishing the DLC and it has been just as I expected. Challenging, yet super fun. Just like the base game.

It's not a bad game, but it is overrated and underwhelming.

This is my biggest complaint so far. My character is around level 350 and level 12 or so with those tree fragments things so it hasn't been too difficult but it takes forever to find your way around.
