    $3k for this?

GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB

    NOPE!

I was able to build out a comparable system on the cyberpowerpc website with the same CPU, memory, and a RTX 4080 super for $2500 ($2497 to be exact), so that's a big bunch of nope. Not competitively priced at all.

Still no idea why people do not just build their own PC. Also why is anyone buying a PC like this now? The new GPUs and CPUs will be out soon as we're coming to the end of the now two year cycle.

For some people it's not worth the time to save a few hundred $, and other people don't want to deal with troubleshooting. I usually build my own PCs, but had one with 2 faulty motherboards, 1 faulty HDD, and a USB drive that didn't work. Having to return the parts and wait for new ones took an extra 2-3 weeks to finally get it all together.

The base model without the custom Smite case was $2850. A $350 markup in price for a pre-built gaming PC is not bad at all.

Not everyone has the time or knowledge to do it. You can replace your own windows yourself, too, but can you do it? Sometimes it's just easier and better to pay someone to do something for you than to do it yourself.

As others have pointed out, some people don't have the time or aptitude to build a pc.

Also consider the time it takes to research and buy parts and then, if you don't have experience putting together a machine you have to find videos to help you.

I suppose for some it depends on what is more valuable to them, their time or their money.

I built my own computer and have been updating since.

My next computer? I can see buying a pre-built or even going through one of those sites where someone puts it together for you.

Well, there's the question of time or simply bothering with it all, as others have pointed out. And then there are also more practical aspects. For starters, if a component is faulty, as an individual you first must figure out what's going on (beyond 'my brand new rig does not start'), RMA the faulty piece and then wait - possibly weeks - for a replacement part. A professional computer store will have dozens of other parts available and they will move the faulty part aside for later RMA, while they simply use another from their stock for your build.

Then there are small compatibility issues that regular people will simply not know about. To give you an example, when I was ordering my old PC, I requested specific components and the store then informed me that there would not be sufficient clearance between the memory heat spreader and the large Noctua fan, and then suggested alternative options. Unless you deal with these products on a daily basis, you will not know that.

Third, there's the warranty matter. In all my previous builds I had at least some issue that required hardware replacement. Perhaps because I used to select ASUS, which in my experience is complete shit. Either way, instead of me once again RMA-ing components back and waiting for weeks for replacements (and then perhaps figuring out it wasn't that component's fault after all), I just take it back to the store and pick it up a couple of days later. No hassle.

And frankly, people who do this for a living will always do a much better job than what I could do. When I got my old PC and saw the cable management, I was amazed. I would never have done anything even close to that clean and professional work...

While I always build my computers and that's the way to go for me, I understand "Why".

Many do not know or have the desire to build their own computer. Its .. tricky, especially if you have no idea wtf to do, which I assume, a very big majority of the computers users are.

And its ..time consuming. Order the parts, wait for the parts, they might get all at once ( very unlikely ). If not, get 2 parts today , 3 tomorrow, etc. Then, start .. building it. Start with the case, cables management ( which I hate ) and so on.

The last one I build ( the one I am currently using ) I had a pretty .. rough time to build it for..different reasons. After this, I told myself that the next one, I'll just .. yea, buy it lol. I'll pay few hundred euros in plus, but I'll get it like.. "plug and play" and that's it.

..or who am I kidding? Very likely to also build the next one myself and not buy it in..full! :)

The type of people that buy these gaming PCs can easily work out how to put a CPU into a motherboard and plug wires into it.... No casual person is buying this, so I do not buy your arguments.

Your reasoning is way off. Just because someone is a hardcore player doesn't mean they have the time or aptitude to make a pc.

And as I've already mentioned, I CAN build my own pc but I think my next one will be from someone who can build one. I don't really enjoy the process and I'd rather spend the money.

How is the bloatware on the Starforge PC? How much deleting did you have to do?

I own this PC, I got the previous version of it (aka they update the parts as the generations improve) and the boat is minimum to nonexistent, I've had it about 1 1/2 years now and I cant remember is there was anything I needed to uninstall/clean.

As for the main talking topic on this, the price range is perfect for those of us who don't want to deal with building a PC ourselves; I spent about 2 weeks going through various sites and pricing out a PC and it was roughly around 2400-2500 for what I wanted, all the various sites i.e ibuypower, and cyperpowerpc were basically the same price. Then went through all the reviews of these sites, asked friends and other gamers, and read through the return/warranty policies, and found all of them to be extremely atrocious when it comes parts failing, honoring policies/returns, and the struggle of time and sometimes additional money it takes to get your borked parts handled.

Then you look into Starforged where the same stuff I priced out, actually in some cases a small bit better, and the price is about $300-$350 more. You read the reviews, the return/warranty policies and ask around and find out they have an extremely positive reputation and the policies are consumer friendly as hell.

So yea, I paid the little bit of extra money I had to save up for to get the peace of mind of a prebuilt, preloaded PC and avoided the risk of parts coming at separate times, failing, and having to build it/load it myself. 100% Worth.

Hardcore gamer does not mean hardcore hardware enthusiast. By your logic all Nascar drivers must also be mechanics.

I've been a PC gamer for close to 25 years now and I've never built my own.  I've picked out parts to have it built for me and I know what to look for to get the best performance but I don't have the technical skill nor the desire to do it.  I don't mind paying someone else to do it for me.  I guarantee you, there's more PC gamers like me than you may think.

Well, for "ha-ha's" I started looking around for companies that do pre-built pc's or that build pc's.

I found one that seemed fine then remembered micro-center builds them. However, their site has you pick out all the parts.

So there I was doing research on this and that part and quite frankly found it dull and pedantic. I think perhaps my next pc will be a pre-built as I hate looking up memory and seeing what it works with and comparing this cpu to that cpu.

So yeah, while some people can build pc's it's really kind aggravating and dull for some.

There was zero bloatware on the PC. I simply had to log into Windows and it was good to go.

I actually bought a Voyager II Elite yesterday. No add-ons. Came out to $5400USD.

I built my previous two PCs but the last was in 2015, and an upgraded GPU in 2018. Everything is dated and on some games i just barely beat the minimum specs.

I actually do think If I did all the research and waited for sales I could have saved over a thousand on it, but I have the money and just don't care enough to do all the research, take the chance of damaging stuff and needing to RMA or buy again, or install wrong and have to troubleshoot.

It could have been a nice lump on the mortgage, but with how much time I spend on PC for work and gaming/streaming/youtube it is worth the cost.

If it doesn't meet standards for liike 5-10 years I'll feel pretty bad about it though lol

Price isn't the issue, why would I buy an i7 processor when I can buy the i9? Makes no sense unless I'm poor, which I'm not.

On an unlimited budget, of course you'd get an i9 instead of an i7.  But $3000 isn't an unlimited budget, and that's not how most people shop.

Between CPU cores getting faster, graphics APIs getting more clever, and die shrinks making it cheap and easy to offer quite a lot of CPU cores, nearly the only way that anything would be substantially CPU limited within the next several years on the 20-core i7 processor is if the developers are just really bad at optimizing code.  And developers who are bad at coding tends to cause worse problems than merely low frame rates.
