Issue is nobody wants to spend millions of investor money to build an MMO that might work, They would rather use a formula that has been proven to work. The only MMO that is still doing well that tried something different is EVE. pretty much every one of the top 10 MMOS are all the same. WoW, FFXIV, guild wars 2, Elder scrolls online, RuneScape all have their own niche but are fundamentally the same.

Guild Wars 2 is significantly different from the other games on that list. It might not have all the specifics you personally want, but if you have played it, you know it is not a cookie-cutter MMO.

Have to agree with some other posters here.

The combat is meh, like some weird action tab hybrid badly done mix.

The UI is kind of a mess and there is LOTS in the f10 menu, just feels like there is way too many menus and shite to look through and things going on in there.

Has a battlepass AND a premium log pass you can buy, not a fan of those but okay.

Like previous poster said it feel kind of generic and plasticy.

Oh forgot to mention it has some weird annoying mechanics, at some point you are tracking down a woman and as you search her home you find a book which you need to examine to be able to open a chest and the method or mechanic to open the book is super awkward annoying and not very intuitive.

I mean spinning it around to look at it from different angles is easy to do but you have to kind of hold down the right mouse button at a certain spot on it and left click at the same time to open it...it was just annoying and not very intuitive, this part really, really annoyed me last night before i logged off.

The cinematic look great and story seem interesting for now, I like Helpie its a cutie.

Overall might be okay to play through the campaign but definitely not a game I would play much once hitting endgame and I kind of feel this is going to be more pvp oriented?

One thing I don't like about games, I feel the characters are kind of small, like I feel you will play most of the game zoomed out too far from them and even if you scroll in, which you can, it will just be awkward and not pleasant.

Dunno I but for me it is a skip. I am not willing to pay 60$ cdn for this, maybe if it goes on sale for like 20$cdn or less at some point.

It's F2P...  Those "packages" they are selling just let you start early and give cosmetics and store stuff.

But as you said, there IS an optional Battlepass and an optional Leveling Pass.

Im torn on this game myself.   It suffers from the same things I see in other Korean games:  Far too many "currencies".  But there are parts that are fun an appealing.

    Oh is it!

I was under the impression it had a box price.  Well it might be okay to play a bit if f2p just for the story but I don't see myself caring about any endgame crap.

None of the cosmetic stuff in those packs is even that good in this game lol. I bought a collectors pack for Lost Ark, better skins came out later. It's never worth it.

Isn't it just 3 currencies? A lot less then most Korean games.

I'm gonna keep playing. I'm enjoying the PvE aspects, haven't tried PvP yet. Definitely not worth buying the cosmetic packages.  The game isn't too cutesy, no animal ears or stuff like that. But I do like the helpie avatars.

Not really.   Maybe they don't officially call these currencies but off the top of my head there is:

    Lucent (Cash shop)
    Sollent (in game currency)
    Contract Coins
    Guild Coins
    Ornamental Coins
    Dimensional Contract Tokens

    Probably more...

Just when you remember all the currencies you decide to leave the game. Every time you start these F2P games you have to learn all the new currencies and resources and what they do. How to convert one to another, watch youtube videos on all the best ways to use the currencies. Ayoh tiring and whenever you come back to the game you have to relearn all these things.

The game better be good for me to have all these classes on the currencies.

Exactly, a sea change occurred in the noughties that led to players paying to avoid group content or MMOs without any sort of grouping.

It lead to players not needing to group for progression in MMORPGs as much as they once had to. This was so well received it became the standard rather than an exception for much of MMORPG content. For profit companies are generally not inclined to argue with what becomes proven successful.

Creating confusion with multiple "currencies" seems to be an inevitable stage in every MMOs development, that way you don't realise how much you need to spend.

Did my first open world contested boss.  It was in a level 20 zone.  A small area was carved out and became a FFA PvP zone. I had a quest for the boss so I glided into the area to check it out.

    Insta dead.

There must have been 150 or more there.

Rezed back as the town which is where I glided from.  Saw 30 similar folks rezing.  All, including me, flew back.

    Insta dead.

So I rezed and looked at the batches of people rezing.  All level 40,45,50…

I did it a few more time to “get credit” for the boss.

Not really sure it makes sense to have guilds with 30 level 40+ fighting randoms in a level 20 zone… but whatever.  I got credit.

PS: I was actually level 31.  My group has leveled slow so I was waiting for them to catch up by going back and trying to get "completions" on the stuff I missed.

Overall I actually kind of like the game, despite the currencies and the above post.  But I think I'm the only one in my group that does.  I can sense some reluctance to keep going after the beta.

Yeah if the zone/event is labeled conflict for that boss fight it will be PvP. The good news is it alternates each time. If that Boss was conflict before, it will be Peace next time around. If you're going into a conflict zone, at the very least bring a group. Experienced players will get to 50 really fast and contest conflict zones like crazy.

Huh?  A basic auto attack has been a part of MMORPGS since Ultima Online (maybe earlier).

So I have no idea what you are complaining about or referencing laziness in todays games.

Hey the grandaddy of MMORPGs Everquest had auto attack and it had a music to accompany it to make sure you realised it was on. People would optimize their kick around it to max out dps.

I tried it out, knowing full well I'd never play the 1.0 release due to the battle pass. It was fine.

As someone mentioned above, it does feel a lot like Guild Wars 2, but I feel like T&L has LOT of unnecessary complication. Leveling up my gear is an annoyance I could certainly do without.

I do admire the amount of lore -- the world-building is phenomenal. Too bad most of it is packed away in a journal no one will ever bother to read.

My biggest complaint (apart from the existence of a battle pass) is that the main questline is very persistent and always in your face. I found myself reluctant to spend any time exploring on my own (my preferred way to play), because there was always some story to chase. It's somehow a lot more intrusive than in FFXIV, which uses a similar system.

Also, the breakneck pace of leveling seemed a bit much. It's like they know people simultaneously hate having to level up, but they also love the dopamine rush of gaining a level, so the developers chose to give you a ding every five minutes to shepherd you along the painful journey. Here's an idea: Maybe just don't bother with levels at all. It's so pointless and unnecessary.

Oh, and I really, really, really hate the stupid doll that follows you around. Ugh. Even if there were no battle pass, that awful thing would have put me right off the game in a matter of minutes.
