Well screw Ziff Davis then and, due to their greed, I hope every game they release bombs and sinks them further into debt. You have a company never known for gaming, buying a game company then laying everyone who created all the games off, while trying to sugarcoat it as solely a "business" decision. At the same time expecting the public to believe this will not impact any of their current or futures games in any way. Code can be a fickle thing. Tossing everyone aside within the company, from the top of the food chain to the bottom, means there is no one left that knows everything about the guts of the game. So beyond being greedy and heartless, they're also inept owners who just proved they have no understanding of what they owned. I say that not owning any of the games Humble Games made but that does mean they are bad or detract from how this was handled by Ziff Davis.

You know it's bad when they begin their statement: "In these challenging times..."

Been my experience once the layoffs start it's just a matter of time before it all goes down the drain, at least with these smaller indie studios.

You can't get more solely a business decision than entirely eliminating staff. How able the owners are depends on how well they determined and executed that needed to achieve the intended result of their decision.

No, if the only way your management team can think to solve the issues is to get rid of all the staff that is a failure. Unless you are buying companies up to break them down and sell them off I can't see how that can be seen as a success on ZD's part.

This company used to be in the business of being a charity entity with video games being the key hook in how they got folks to donate(OG Humble Bundle back in the day); then somehow they got into the business of making their own video games.

Now they are at the stage of being in the business of running a business.....

You don't have to see it. ZD alone must as their best option. Their success overall will be given more priority than that of Humble Games in particular.

It's always disheartening to see layoffs, especially from a company like Humble Games that has contributed so much to the indie gaming scene. While restructuring can be a necessary step for survival, it raises concerns about the future of their game catalog and the personal impact on their talented staff. Hoping the consulting firm can maintain the quality and support these games deserve. Thoughts on how this might affect upcoming titles?
