Before anyone sheds a tear over whatever Payback was, there's a very good chance it got canceled because it just plain sucked. Bungie is not in a place where it can afford many missteps. They probably saw the flop writing on the wall, and pulled the plug early to reallocate assets to projects with a higher likelihood of being successful.

A lot of the consensus seems to be more that payback was canned because Bungie is awful at money management, so they couldn't take the risk. Its why they're pulling back destiny production, as well as the other projects they had going. It seems like the studios future is set around how marathon does, so I'd say about a 75% chance of complete studio implosion.

CCP made the hugely successful MMO EVE Online. After that they tried and failed at every other MMO.

Point is: Stick to what you're good at!

It is a DAMN shame people have to lose their jobs as the result of a poorly managed company. From Sony perspective it was a necessary evil that had to be done. Trim the BS and get Bungie right sized to focus on what they are good at... Destiny. With the exception of The Final Shape they have been struggling at doing even that.

Time to get shit going in the right direction Bungie and make this your redemption arc.
