I can feel your excitement through the screen!

Trying hard to get my group to give LORTO another look. Not sure if I will be successful but I am installing as we speak. I probably won't remember my old passwords and account information so guess I'd be starting from scratch. Any good guides for someone starting out? Often old games are kind of a wasteland for current info.

@lotrlore One of the frustrations I have with "F2P" games is trying to figure out the actual payment structures.

I have no problem paying a sub.   But what else will I really have to spend to play?  I see that they sell the current Expansion, but then they also sell all the older expansions as well? Do I need to buy all of these or did they become "free" when the newest expansion launched?

It is very fun. I've been playing the US based Angmar server, very fun stuff!

The first of the Nine was killed last night on Angmar!

It has genuinely been one of the most fun experiences gaming I've had in along time - but I am an old timer. I'm 41 years old and I enjoy the "old dated" feel of LOTRO, it's why I play it, actually.

Such a great little community also. LOTRO is a gem, hidden for those that seek it ;)

They are making it a bit hard to get started.

Trying to recover account information.  Clicking forgot password takes me to the Standing Stones website.   Clicking forgot username says an email has been sent to the account holder (I put in my email).  Nothing received 25 minutes later. Yes, I have checked Spam.  Also, I have an email from SSG just a few days ago to that email account announcing the new servers...

Won't let me make a new account with my email either as it says it already exists...
    Not a great start.

So for the Angmar server, you have to pay a sub to even access it. But other than expansions and the "mini-expansions," all of the game's content is included here. Before the Shadow, which adds a new 1-32 leveling experience was just made "free" to sub accounts.

Other than that you really don't need to spend any money other than if you want some cool cosmetics or convenience items.

And yea, finding your account information is going to be somewhat archaic. SSG's account site looks like it was imported from 2006. It's really not ideal.

On the plus side I guessed my password so I'm in.

Strangely the graphics defaulted to some low resolution.  I was manually able to adjust them so at least the character screen looks pretty decent!

For guides, Bloodborn's YouTube channel is very, very good. He's got a ton of stellar info on there. If you're looking for more traditional guides, I tend to like LotROHQ for class guides and such.

I'd love for us to do comprehensive guides like this for LotRO and other MMOs, but guides have never been this site's wheelhouse, even when we've tried. Someday, though.

I have been around a while apparently. Just recovered my information:

    Signup Date
    3/1/2007
    Game Version History
    Shadows of Angmar™ Pre-order
          (EBGames™/GameStop™)
    Shadows of Angmar™ Special
    Shadows of Angmar™ Open Beta
    Shadows of Angmar™ Standard
    Mines of Moria™ Standard
    2009 Anniversary Program Reward

So from my understanding a sub gets me through a ton of the content and only later expansions and the Brawler and Mariner classes are locked out. Y'all are making em want to play but I have too many games on the horizon!

LOL.  SImilar to mine but I apparently pre-ordered from Best Buy and didn't get the 2009 Anniversary Program Reward

I must have logged in and timed it well or something. I have not actively played the game in a very long time.

I ended up putting the difficulty slider back down to normal just so I could solo the wraiths. It's a bit disappointing they slowed down the number of spawning wraiths for all levels, I would have rather they instead slowed it down to ease you into wraiths for spawning at the lower levels and then gradually incrementing the spawn rate as you get higher.

I doubt I'll dive in, but I did want to say I think it's cool when a developer finds a way to breath life back into their game and rekindle that excitement. The "newbie madness" phase of an MMO is always the best where everyone is leveling and discovering and the game feels new and exciting. Sounds like they recaptured that feeling with this server. Good job and congratulations to the developers!

Had my first encounter with a Wraith last night.  Amazing timing as I just walked into a higher content area as a storm came out of nowhere.  Literally a few seconds later I move mu cursor in the distance and see Shadowy Wraith...

I quickly turned tail and ran :)

Not sure how long I can play though because so far I've only convinced 1 more person to join me.  Somehow my LOTRO suggestion has triggered 2 others to go start fresh on a new EQ server (shudder).  The rest are on the fence.

My honest impression is mixed.  Setting is awesome. Looks better than I thought. TONS of content.  But on the flip side, many quests are just tedious go here, go there go back here, go back there... and it can be overwhelming catching up on a decades worth of new systems they have layered onto the game. Soooo much to grasp.   But.. at this point I would say I am still interested and hopeful.
