Thats people who paid (at least) $40, and something to keep in mind, a lot of people are waiting for full launch, even people who paid.
EA have their own cluster of servers, while the full launch will have their own separate cluster.
Also it's been mentioned on the official discord that their are a large number of Playstation and Xbox players in EA, which steam doesn't track, but they do play with us on the same servers.
So right now, there are 49k online right as i am typing this. And to be generous, add 25-30% to that number for console players.
Full launch will be MUCH higher numbers, as i've heard talk that a large number of old Lineage 1/2 mega-guilds plan on playing, but not until full launch, as well as large multi-gaming communities waiting until full launch.

Awesome fun so far. Only about 5 hours in but really good time
yeah, I've enjoyed the small bit I've played. Just so long as I put away my preference for story driven mmorpg's. Which I have. I do have quibbles but "meh" I'll live.

For me that is a line in the sand I can't walk over, but everything's relative, it would be interesting to hear from posters about how T&L compares to other MMOs which park story in the the basement. I found BDO to be story thin, but that's a game that's been out for years, so somewhat unfair to compare it to this one?
We'll see how many are still playing a month after the full release. There is often a big initial surge that doesn't last. Hopefully it will have more staying power.
50K that couldnt wait 5 days. I know I know, I'm broke etc. Main reason I didn't bother with EA is because launch will already have their own new servers so its kinda whatever. You're not technically getting 'left behind' not playing EA unless they royally fk up and make certain stuff account-wide (certain currencies etc) vs server wide.
Early access was just part of the deal. Either way why do you give a fk?
And what a deal!!! 5 days head start and a few cosmetics all for the low price of $50.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

I'm not broke and there's no way I'm paying $50 for 5 days head start and a few cosmetics when the game is free on Tuesday.

Well, seeing how this is Amazon and they love to merge servers after numbers drop, some day that headstart investment might pay off a little.
Honestly, that'll always be the case with titles like these. If I was a betting person, I'd say Amazon will announce serge merges 6 months post launch, and probably 'fresh start' servers within 3 months of that. I've played Archeage fresh start servers enough times to be satisfied within their first month before they start to go downhill from there and I'll treat TnL the same. Have my fun then leave.
The standard thing for especially hyped free to play games is they will have a huge population for the first bit after launch, then about 80%, to 90%+ of that will quit over the next twelve months. Add to that how this is a very group dependant game, and yes, they absolutely will do server mergers down the road after those 80%, to 90%+ players start quitting, as they will need to if the game is to remain functional.
Played early access with my disposable income, i hope that is ok. A beautiful game. Started playing early saturday morning, by saturday afternoon was already at lvl cap. With the leveling being so easy, there is a large skill gap with using the party finder tool for dungeons. They were very frustrating till i got in a good company/guild and did pre-mades only. Leveling gear is going to be the same bottleneck we have seen in other KR games. I see myself playing for a month or two then only coming back for new content, maybe. World bosses are crazy. Not sure if they will all be a conflict (pvp) event, but all the ones i participate in were. Trying to kill a boss for 20-30 minutes while everyone is auto-flagged for pvp is weird. This is something you will not want to do solo like i did the first time. Think i died like 15 times.
If you are looking for something to kill some time with, i would recommend this game for that purpose only. If you really like it, you will need to be in a large company and have a fat wallet or you will not be very competitive in pvp.

Being flagged for PvP while taking down a boss was exactly how lineage 2 played. Sometimes an enemy alliance would show up when the boss’s health was down in order to take advantage of the raiding group’s work as well as having their concentration elsewhere.
I saw some sort of “leveling packs “ in the shop but what else was there that gave advantage to pvp.

See, that's the sort of mechanic that drives many players away, at least those why don't have a pirate mentality who delight in taking away the progress of others.

This thread completely destroyed any interest in the game. Given the design decisions mentioned accordingly, hopefully the devs will enjoy their miniscule numbers. Sure its going to launch huge and then when people get into, plummet into the abyss.
The only remaining discussion will be threads that pop up 5-10 years from now with people asking "I cam trying to remember that one game from like 2024 or so that had PVP, can someone help me out?".
I still feel like this game will do better than Lost Ark and New World, even though those are kinda low bars. Has more mmorpg elements and better direction than New World with some less annoy systems compared to Lost Ark, so it should be AGS front runner. I know some people are worried about the open-world pvp aspect of the game but honestly it pretty avoidable and is kinda lacking for broad pvp (pvp happens at night and usually lasts for 30mins outside of certain events which usually happen every 2-3 hrs I think, so really night time can just act as a break vs anything for people who dont like pvp).

I don’t think it’s black and white like that. I loved lineage 2 and never messed with any players.
well unless they messed with us!
It was a world of war and fighting for resources.
Not for everyone but for some
But you played lineage, it must have been similar?

Played in the open test awhile back. Yeah it was accelerated XP but I finished the storyline over the weekend test.
I liked it. Wasn’t the greatest but I’d give it a B-
I was the only one in my group that liked it though. So it’s a pass for me, at least for launch. It will be interesting to see how the greater PvP game shapes up.

They're both kind of bad with the linear story stuff.
There's also what I believe is a tutorial continuation with sending your character to various npc's who you might need for crafting. It's very dull.
Also, you can't escape the initial tutorial (as far as I can see) if you've done it before.'
Additionally, people should NOT make a character enter the world, decide they want to remake the character with the same name, delete the character (6 hour wait) and then expect to keep your name. Names are assigned to the character. If you delete the character you delete the name. which is crap.
Having said that, Amazon customer service was excellent in helping me reinstate the character with the name.

Thinking about it more, i really do hope news populations do not rush out numbers for the full launch- and i say that with the appreciation that ya'll are competing for viewers attention, but we need to wait for some really substantive numbers before it's reported on.
If i see a news outlet(s) begin reporting as soon as it hits 100k; I'm gonna be a bit disappointed. Albeit unsurprised, but with a disapproved face.
